Time for a new router

My Linksys WRT1900 is an early model, about 5-6 years ago- so I can't upgrade its internals, does 2.4 and 5 WiFi. Still works, but its getting fidgety.

Load is 1600sf home, two users with cabled PC, laptops cabled and or WiFi and wireless laptop/iPads/iPhones. The data hog is the Tivo box gobbling Netflix and other streams- we only watch an hour or two a day- but it is always grabbing content to the drive. No WiFi 6 compatible devices as yet.

Want similar;
- 2.4/5
- guest have own channel
- >3 Ethernet ports
- Again, great WiFi signal is a must- 30' router to Tivo shot.

Ideas- makes and models & why. I'd like to spend <$200.
Buy now or will Easter bring sales? Not in an "on fire" hurry, figure w/in 30 days or tomorrow ;-)

I got tired of having intermittent wifi depending on where in the house I was. 2-story house and 2 garages at either end of house.

This solution let's me have a guest wifi with their own password and I have great reception everywhere. I go from the cable router to a switch to the google wifi. The switch gives me the hardline connection I need for my office VOIP phone.

I put primary next to my router. Additional unit next to primary TV and another upstairs. Whole house coverage.

Sorry I know about your price request but a good router you should only replace every 4-5 years in a home, so just spend at least $200 - $300 and you'll love it.

Turns out it was an operator problem (that would be me). Took a bunch of fiddling to figure it out, but its done and back in the game performing very well. Sorry Amazon, I was almost there.

In case one of you run into a similar problem;

It all started when the Spectrum router went south. Replacing it was super easy- take a drive to Spectrum, drop it off and swap for a new one.

For "some" reason it and the Linksys didn't play nice- ultimately had to "master reset" the Linksys blowing out everything so it was "like new"- then starting over.
That made things a little better, but Netflix via the Tivo still ran poorly.

Fiddled with everything and what finally fixed it all was rebooting the Spectrum cable box (Network Adapter they call it)- which the WiFi doesn't even run through- but resetting it unleashed the Tivo box and poof- all good again.

What I learned is if a major component needs changing- treat the stream like new- reset it all like a fresh install. Would have saved a couple hours of fiddling.

Might have had the port speed or duplex hard coded at some point and the firmware reset reverted back to autoneg.

Maybe. That or the blinker fluid got low- beats me. Stuff is magic!

Hell, I have a Netgear Nighthawk I am trying to sell, used it for less than 1.1 months, but needed more features to lock down the kids (well ground them, separately anyway).

Well, that didn't work.

G'bye Linksys, sporting a new Netgear that's rocking the world. Only goofy thing- it arrived (Amazon) with the USPS label slapped right on the Netgear item box- no extra box, dunage or packaging. Glad they used the lock-boxes and didn't just toss it on my doorstep.

Big property with weak signal- get a mesh router

If your coverage range is fine- asus AC 1300

Mesh is great but expensive
Asus is cheap enough as these items now seem to get replaced every 3-5 years
