    iPad 3 popped

I had a older iPad that was lying around for a few months. I upgraded and was going to use the old one in the garage. Found this and was wondering what happened.

The Li-on batteries puffed. Most likely due to heat or deep discharge from not being used.

      poke it with a stick

Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law' because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual.

What is the best way to get rid of this thing. Do not want to blow fire in the house.

So, the most difficult part of a battery swap on an iPhone or iPad is getting the darn thing open. If the iPad hasn't been damaged, nothing bent or broken, just buy new batteries and install.

However look carefully for wires or cables that have been pulled apart. And tiny things bent or broken.

If all seems OK, you might take a chance on a battery:

              Replace a battery compatible with 3rd and 4th Gen iPad models A1416, A1430, A1403, A1458, A1459, A1460. Part #616-0593, 616-0592. Battery model A1389. 43 Watt Hours (Wh). 3.7 Volts (V).

                Lipo batteries are funny

In the old days, if a Tesla battery went flat, you need to replace the entire battery pack. Full discharge kills some of the new batteries
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT

Not going to bother as it is beyond updating of soft ware. I will take the batteries out and strip the chassis down.

THIS is why I like Android tablets that you can easily pull the back off and swap (or even just unplug) batts...
The 8" LG G-pad X tablet ran me about $135-$150, NIB, w/ cell card built-in, but I only use it on WiFi(/tethering).

Did it bust the screws/screw holes/screw nuts out of their housing?

The screws held, all 2, which kept it from completely opening like a book. The screen was at 15 degree angle from the back.

Look for an e-waste event in your neighborhood/ city. I've seen them held at high schools, strip malls etc

Got an ammo can full of these in my garage from RC days. Always nervous about them. I'd just chuck them but it feels like throwing away money as expensive as they are. Always just around the corner from "getting back into RC" but never quite seem to turn it.

Yea, I have a gen 3 iPad as well and Apple no longer supports it. But it's in perfect condition and I use it daily. Sigh......
