New Dell laptop - image problems

Got a new dell laptop with a M2 drive, neither Acronis or Macrium will recognize that it is there.. but it shows the external hd where I want to save the image to.

    Suggestions?

You can use Windows 10 native imaging tool. It's found in File history, in Control Panel. You'll need to make a rescue disk, and password reset disk. This is the first I've heard of this with Macrium. I'll investigate it.

Also, look in the BIOS, and turn OFF secure boot. See if that works.

Does the laptop support legacy BIOS? You may need to enable it / disable UEFI boot to get it to see the device. Newer SSD onboard storage needs drivers to enable the chip before boot.

I recently received a warning that my hard drive was going to crash. My computer is old and has served me well but it was time for a new one even before I got the warning. My last two laptops have been HP Pavilions so that's what I'll be buying.
I'm also picking up a large capacity zip drive to transfer my personal information to the new computer. I've never done this before but hopefully if I follow the instructions I won't have a problem.

          Clonezilla, G4L, dd?

Not sure if GPT parts. Are supported, but these worked well for Win7 and before...

Those little HP Pavilion 15 fxxxwm, budget laptops with the touchscreens, aren't too bad little computers. Batteries kinda suck though.

If you’re having image problems, I don’t think a new laptop is gonna fix them. Professional psychological help may be required.

              Seriously OP, good luck.
              Sorry, not sorry.

I've had good luck with HPs so I'll look into those when I go shopping this week.

There was a full SERIES of HPs with touch-bar volume, and they died very quick...

My wife had been using them for the last nine years. Her first one, had the build quality of an '85 Yugo GT, but it never failed to start, and go. FINALLY got her away from them with a high end, 17" Dell.

If you go that route, I recommend the A8/R5 version with the model number "HP Pavilion15 f387wm".

This is the absolute MOST I'd ever spend for one. Get it cheaper if you can. Get a spare battery. Heres a better one:

It could also use a RAM, and SSD upgrade. Pretty easy to do in this one. Her's cost me $200, and less than a dollars worth of change, including the upgrades. That was four years ago.

Two months ago, I dangled a 17" Dell Inspiron 17-7778/16gb/RAM, 256gb SSD, 1080p IPS touchscreen display, GT940mx graphics, and aluminum case, on a stick, and she went for it like a Carp after a doughball!

It's because they were basically junk.

I looked at the Dell Inspiron 17" online and it's impressive. It costs more than the HP but has twice the memory. The Dell is definitely an option.

I think that I found the issue , the drive controller, apparently in Dells they appear as a RAID and Acronis / Macrium work under Linux and do not support raid?

Any other ways to make an image? not trying to clone the drive (M2 style), but make a image that includes installed software in the event I ever need to re-image

It has a better screen too. The 7778, will run you between $675, and $799 on Ebay. It has around 10hrs battery life. The only complaint, is the "U" processor.
