Just for the record, Bitcoin has run nearly 5x off it's bottom this year...

I like the idea of gold more but I got to admit it was way easier to send bitcoin. Wish I got in sooner, kinda missed the boat. Speculation aside, the concept seems really useful, to have another option besides USD that doesn't have some government agency with special powers manipulating it.

The idea of gold is nice, but the realities of gold include a history of counterfeiting as old as time.

In some recent news, China got busted using $3B worth of Gold to back loans - OOOF!

In more recent news, JP Morgan settled a suit for an unknown amount regarding their metals manipulations practice which had been going on for decades. People think they're buying precious metals when they're only buying the IDEA of precious metals through derivatives - crazy!

The time where your $1 can turn into $80k has long past as bitcoin is up several million percent. However, it's still asymmetrical to the upside. It's properties to act as a Store of Value are unmatched. There is a non-zero probability that bitcoin becomes $1M in the future and becomes the world reserve currency for international exchange.

BTC broke through $25,000 yesterday, becoming for comparison's sake the 13th largest company in the world if looking at it's market cap of 402 billion dollars...

But Bitcoin isn't a company for-profit. It is however a decentralized form of currency that Federal regulators will want a slice of.

              What is a decentralized currency?

Decentralized currency, peer-to-peer money, and digital currency all refer to bank-free methods of transferring wealth or ownership of any other commodity without needing a third party. Most centralized, and some decentralized, markets use fiat currency—or physical money issued by a central bank, like U.S. dollars.Aug 25, 2020

              Is Bitcoin a decentralized system?

Although Bitcoin originally aimed to be fully decentralized, recent events revealed the limits of decentralization in this system. Many centralized services host Bitcoin and control a considerable share of the Bitcoin market.

As an End of Year update:

From it's yearly bottom early in the year, Bitcoin went below $4k shortly during the great market crash when the world locked down in fear and a liquidity crisis ensued as people rushed for USD.

To it's high's reaching $28k (with a few days left in the year) during a contested (stolen) general election spanning months of uncertainty, on-going lock-downs, threat of wealth distribution, war, bogus stimulus - foreign aid, big money entering the market(hedge funds, S&P companies, banks)... there's a lot going on...

As a last thought, consider the comment from a couple weeks ago, this guy thinks a drug shipment drove the market cap up a quarter trillion dollars. People still have no clue what bitcoin is. They have no idea what a ledger is. That means there is considerable room for growth.

I can't ever get to a point where I think I'm actually good at anything I do. I just try to keep up.

We're approaching $33k on the morning of 2 January, with a $610B market cap and 72.2% dominance over the entire crypto market.

This is days before a congressional vote to confirm who will be POTUS.

The current market sentiment is that we may hit $100k in 2021.
If Trump pulls off a victory, it wouldn't be unexpected for there to be a quick wave of profit taking, driving price down, and reinvesting with a better dollar cost average. If Biden win's, $100k is plausible.

LOL. Too funny. I can understand the sentiment.

One thing that may shed some light on the subject that our esteemed colleague easyrider gets so right is a book you may be very interested in and that may boost your career. It is about blockchain, and blockchain is the foundation of what Bitcoin is built from; what it grows from, what makes it secure, yet transparent.

Blockchain software (what little I can understand of it at this point in time) is THE FUTURE. Everything! will benefit from it's incorporation. Sure, we will always need that human touch in everything we as humans do, but blockchain will speed things along nicely.

I only wish I could have jumped onto the BITCOIN freightrain back when I had my blockchain epiphany in April, 2020...

Granted, there are other ways to invest in blockchain technology; it does not have to be any form of cryptocurrency. The book mentioned will shed much light on the subject. I've been taking very small bites of it occasionally. It is much to digest.

                            Good luck to you!

Adding to the list of educational resources:
Andreas Antonopoulos has been at the forefront of Bitcoin since nearly it's inception. He has probably answered any question on the subject you may have. Has authored multiple blockchain books as well.

A year ago today BTC was at $3,858. Today, it's at $34,571. People were just hoping it would break 20k and it certainly has.

                                Happy New Year to you!
