    MS Office 365 - Puzzled...

If I buy an MS Office 365 subscription ($53.50/yr via Amazon), can I upload it on my laptop AND desktop, or only on one computer? It states it is for one PC, but in the past that often meant one person (and two computers).

Are you sure thats for the local install and not the cloud version? My company switched to O365 last year and its pretty awful. Teams is good though.

      HALT.

-Buy an old copy of Office for XP on fleabay. It was the last OPEN license copy of Office offered.

-Install on as MANY computers as you like (make sure you get original packaging with the key, obviously!).

-Run the 2007 conversion package download from Microsoft.

-ENJOY... for around $20 - FOREVER.

Runs JUST fine with Windows 7, 8 AND 10. I run it here at the house on 7Pro. I run it at my office, on Windows 10 Pro - & it works like a champ!

        Thanks everyone for the advice.

I was looking for a stand-alone copy of Office 365. It seems that isn't available. I have Office 2010 which works well. But more people are sending me Word files with the docx extension that I can open but can get corrupt. More importantly (for me), it seems more email certificates are becoming incompatible with Outlook 2010. If I want to continue correspondences w/ the corporate world (I live in), I need to jump to Office 365 (which I have used and...feel its inferior to 2010).

I had no idea there was a subscription for less then 5 endpoints. But I do not read up on consumer licensing.

Office 365 is a subscription package and has both an off-line installer and a cloud-based service. You can use either and if you store your documents in the cloud then you can use the cloud-based interface anywhere on any device to access your documents.

Once you have paid for the subscription license you can download the offline installer, install it on two computers or two devices or tablets.

Microsoft still offers a standalone non-subscription product, but it still requires online activation, and is only a single seat installation:

In addition, you may also need to purchase Outlook as a separate stand-alone program:

You can also buy 2016 or latest non 365 version for under $10. Yes it works

I ran an old 2007 version at home I had laying around until a couple years ago, when I switched to Libreoffice.
I have been using OpenOffice and Libreoffice on Linux for MANY years

I am not sure, as $99/year for 6 people/logins (for up to 12 computers?) for the latest/greatest seems like a good deal, but do they all have to have a Microsoft sign-in so their docs can be parsed for info, and tracked that way via e-mail addy?

Office 2010 isn't supported by many email hosts for security reasons.

My copy of office 365 has a license for 3 PC's.

So Apple broke my Office 2008 in their current OSX update, 64 bit only.

Microsoft hides it but Office 2019 can be had for one machine only standalone for $150.00 which I am going to buy because I want my stuff local and I only have DSL, so cloud based stuff a no go.
