clearly it is "possible" but it isn't made for you to do it.

(I am sticking with my 2 gens old flagship Android, as I don't want this problem... and Most flagship Androids now have this problem.
Mine is still as zippy as it was with it's last update, and battery-swaps are as easy as just popping off the back.)

It is not meant for a customer to do so, they want you to upgrade or take it to the Apple store and pay to have it done, $40?. But yes, you can replace it, you can also replace the storage. You will absolutely void any warranty by opening the phone. You are going to need a few tools and watch some youtube videos. I recently discovered the channel below, he does some pretty interesting projects. The two below, he attempts to upgrade the iPhone storage himself while on a trip to china and does a battery swap.

On my iPhone 5 that I had two years ago, I used the following site twice to get a new battery and the tools to do it myself.

It was a huge PITA but completely doable.

Genuinely curious, what's their guarantee if they eff up your phone in the process and it has to be replaced? Are they on the hook to replace it if so? Or is it just well sorry we tried, here's your broken phone back. That's what I'd be worried about letting somebody else tear open my phone.

As with most purchases that go wrong; you are SOL.

It is not a difficult task. They open your phone>pry out the old battery, as it is glued down> put in a new one, close the cover. All for about 40-50 dollars. For my older iphone 5 apple was charging well over a $100 (tooooo old they said). and I said...............

I had my iPhone 5S done for $35. Took no more than 30 min. You can buy the aftermarket replacements at Frys for $10, but be wary of the quality. My OEM battery lasted for nearly 10 years before taking a dump.

The tech who did my battery told me to charge the battery no more than 3 hours, otherwise the li-ion pack can overheat and start swelling. I’ve followed his advice, and optimized the phone by closing apps, keeping it out of extreme temp, and using low power mode as much as possible.

Take it to an apple store, they can do it for the $40. That should cover any F-UP that might happen.

Apple store charges $49 to $69 to replace the batteries. Depending on the model.

Learn how to get service for your iPhone battery. We can troubleshoot the issue and help you arrange a repair or replacement. Find out the costs and service options near you.

There are also Apple authorized servicers, Best Buy is one of them.

I have had 3rd party iPhone / mobile phone stores replace batteries and screw up my phone. Last one ruined the home button and since it was a fingerprint reader it could not be properly fixed.

I have also changed a few batteries myself, some with success and some got screwed up worse. Ruined the baseband module in one, no idea how as I was extremely careful.

So having owned many iphones (between myself, wife and kids) and had several varying battery replacement experiences, there is simply no way, no how that I would ever have anyone but Apple do it again.

I thought I read that due to the throttling issues people were complaining about with old Batts, and the hidden back-door slowness, they were pushing a $25 battery replacement in Apple stores due to the outlash?

That special price ended last year.

But the prices for older phone battery swaps has come down in the past few months. This summer, the price was $79 for all phones. It has been lowered to $49 now for many older models.
