Building a Hackintosh - is it safe?

So I have a spare PC:

- Some kind of i3 processor
- 240G SSD
- 8G RAM
- Internal Intel graphics
- Also an RX550 graphics card

I've always wanted to build a hackintosh. Will I get in trouble w/ Apple? We already own a couple Macbook pros.

As far as I know the license won't be legal but I don't know anyone that has been contacted about it. I haven't done it since 10.3 or 10.4 or something but it was just a novelty thing to see if it would work. It did. Used it for 10 minutes then dismantled as there was no practical purpose for keeping it around. I don't use Logic or anything.

The motherboard is from a budget HP. Has built-in wifi, two RAM slots, one graphic card slot, intel on-board 2D graphics, intel i3 CPU.

I'm hoping to end up with a mac-mini.

If you've got the time and money and knowledge, go for it. The processor is nearly a 10 year old design, but what the heck.

I did it back when they first moved to Intel processors and it became doable, so I could learn my way around a Mac without paying their hardware tax premium.

I probably used it 4 or 5 times before deciding I don't like their OS and how they do things, went back to Windows. If I feel like playing around on old hardware I'll put a linux distro on something, but computer hardware is dirt cheap now.

Just don't go calling Apple for support and you should be OK. To get around Apple's hardware signing you're probably having to circumvent all kinds of security features. Linux would be much more secure, and would still give you that OSX feel with the right distribution and themes (ie. Ubuntu).

7th i3 @ 3.9 GHz with 2 cores? Hardly obsolete.

- Mac

- More stable than Win
- Less crapware (yes, even compared to a vanilla Win install)
- Faster (my 5 year old mac beats my brand new win laptop)
- Fewer viruses
