Well, I use MS Access database program and keep all my gun stuff in that.
Such as accessories I have bought, ammo I have, reloading equipment, shooting test results (powder type, ammo type, Feet per Second shooting results, stuff like that.
But, for a simple inventory file I use Notepad and list all of my firearms with the serial numbers.
Notepad works well but if you want to have more info perhaps make a table in Word to list all of your info, or use Access for better a better database solution.
Access has a learning curve just like most programs but I like it. -
I was going to suggest Excel.#NotMyPresident

Using a database is probably overkill unless you also need to be able to cross-reference data by query. Like how many of a particular load did I shoot last month and from which guns, and accuracy to make sure my inventory is kept up.
Anything else can get away with a spreadsheet or formatted text file at most. I use tab delimited text.Comment

I'm a database consultant/developer, and so far I I'm using a simple flat file db to keep the info on the arms I have. i.e. Manufacturer, model, what I paid, new/used, condition when purchased, round count, serial num, price paid, etc.. I need to get my arse in gear to build the related portion: date, time, place, shot, then loads used and how they shot (detailed data....powder, amount, primer, projectile, brass, coal, etc), temp, wind, elevation, etc. Another portion of the db for ammo inventory, etc.
I'd be able to look at firearm in the db, and also see the related range events, how things went, what loads were used and what the environment was that trip, and the results. Of course I could look at a load, and see how it performed in various guns. And on and on.
I get lazy, and when I do have the time, I choose to reload or have a range day!
I'm sure there are great products already built that will capture most of this data, however I'm in a position to customize things the way that works best for me.
If you just need a list of what you own, use a notepad or Excel.Last edited by allright; 11-03-2019, 12:43 AM.OLD iTrader Rating: iTrader Rating Here (click)
