AMD has outdone itself. I just put a computer together running a Ryzen 5 2400G. The integrated graphics is the best one I've ever seen. It blows the Intel integrated graphics away in gaming. Both will run up to 3 monitors if the motherboard has 3 connectors. Intel can run some games at low settings. AMD can run some older games at high settings. Not bad for a processor that cost $120.

Nice, maybe I'll drop one of these in my daughter's future rig to see how she zips, but unfortunately I just dropped about 1K on an i7 before you mentioned this...
In the past, I have always went with AMDs since it was a viable option and it has served me well, but with Win10 chunking away licking things in the background, I thought I'd try the creme-del-la-creme i7, to see if it helps...
All I used to build for a 8000 employee company were AMD-based (Athlon 64's up to x6 Phenom, before we got bought by a larger entity), and they worked very well, before SSDs were a thing, and my board started with an x4 Phenom, upgraded to an x6, until she died a few weeks back... 10-12 years on that board. I think we kept the LCS open.Last edited by the86d; 09-25-2019, 3:54 AM. -

I've used AMD for a long time, from the first Duron to the Phenom II 965 clocked at 4 GHz (it ran at that speed for 8 years). I finally switched to an Intel i5 9600k early this year for gaming. I needed clock speed rather than thread count. Intel is still king of clock speed.
At this rate, AMD just might overtake Intel in clock speed too.Comment

I built my new rig with a Ryzen 9 3900X a few weeks ago. So far it's been running great, and I haven't had any problems playing games with my RTX 2080."The American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the public's money."

This recent purchase is my first Intel I have ever bought for my home use, starting with the AM386DX/DXL-40 (I think was my starting point, or was it the notebook with a AM486DX2/50?), to that AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Processor-Black Edition that the board just died in.Last edited by the86d; 09-26-2019, 5:10 AM.Comment

Only in extreme systems. Most programs don't take advantage of SLI/Crossfire and even in gaming there are pros and cons with the cons often times outweighing the pros.NRA Benefactor Life Member

Yeah, I tend to lean towards the bleeding edge because I want to run the latest games with video quality pushed to the max. I considered a 2080ti, but I got a really good deal on the regular 2080. Total cost of my new system was a little over $3k after factoring in all the normal PC parts plus adding a RAID array."The American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the public's money."

Not much benefit from what I've seen. Maybe you get a bit more fps, but you'll endure endless headaches getting your games and video drivers to play nice with each other."The American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the public's money."
