    PNY 100% Failure Rate

Someone bought 32 120gb PNY brand SSDs for our CAD dept a few years back. Every single one of them failed within a couple years. They were all replaced under warranty but they sent 240gb SSDs to replace them. As of last night, every single one of those have failed. My last one was in a laptop here at home. Went fully unreadable as a 0gb drive.

Moral of this story: avoid PNY SSDs. 64 drives and 100% failure.

What was your use case? Standard laptop drive? Heavy write intensity? Were they replacements for spinning media or fresh installs on SSD?

I'm not discounting PNY using bad chips, but there may be more to understand why one vendor's parts fail more often.

They're all made in the same factory in China by the same people. Luck of the draw.

It certainly sounds like a controller issue to me. SSDs are supposed to go read-only once write-exhausted. So, likely the FTL failed. That could be a firmware bug, bad caps, ESD, overheating. Who knows. Thanks for the heads-up.

I’ve actually never had a good experience with pny from their RAM to their HDD’s and SSD’s. Not sure if their QC is poor. I’ve had other items made in China and are still working ten years later. Most of my use has been in a home NAS setup and upgrade when I can then transition the drives to home pc’s.

Interesting. I've only used Samsung and Intel SSDs so far, none have failed yet. I've had other PNY components which were fine, including an older Attache USB drive which still works. I wonder why all of yours failed. I have to wonder if there's a bigger issue causing the failures.
