Can't get email via Mac Mail - sbcglobal/ Att.net

Hi all,

Anyone else having trouble getting Att.net/ sbcglobal email from a mail app? It worked one day and not the next.

I'm on a Mac (multiple) and using the Mac Mail app. Nothing changed on my computer. I can access them via the web (att.net) and, for now, it works on another computer using the Thunderbird mail app.

Tried two different laptops. Tried deleting and re-adding the account (keeps redirecting to change my password). I know the password is correct since I can log in via the web.

I added a gmail account to the Mac Mail client and it worked fine.

Oddly enough, it works using the Mac Mail client on a third- older- computer so I'm assuming it has something to do with ATT/ Yahoo/ SBC etc.

Ok... this is one of those "I don't know how but it's working deals". I'll post what I did for historical sake.

After spending half of yesterday and all this morning trying to figure it out, I posted on the ATT forums. I read some links regarding ATT switching to using Secure Mail Keys instead of passwords. Someone replied to my thread suggesting I create a secure key and try that.

I went through the steps but when entering the key instead of my password, it failed.

Figured what the heck and tried to add my email account into my email program again and, this time, it worked. No clue why.

Tried to add it to my other laptop and it worked there too.

i ran into the same problem when i started using the Brave browser. all i did was use a different browser.

I had gone through those steps multiple times before. I was hesitant to enter a new password when prompted for one because I wasn't sure that was what was causing the issue. If it happens again, I'll enter a new password and see what happens.

My problem was fixed by creating a secure mail key. You're supposed to use that secure mail key instead of your password, but when using that key, it failed- saying the password was incorrect.

But my email starting working right after that. Knowing ATT/ yahoo/ abc, I'll start having problems at some point.

yeah....the fix only works if you go directly to att.net, it won't work if you try the same after being redirected.
