soon to be mobile user if

Last time I had a mobile all you could do was make calls. I want to drop our cableTV and internet as I am the only user. The TV has to go but can I do all I want with data on these new phones ? I'm thinking of a cheep walmart one with prepaid cards.

Mint is probably the best deal right now IMHO. They're a TMobile MVNO and will run on pretty much, any unlocked phone. Oh yeah, and tethering is included in the price, so you can use your tablet/laptop.

    Unlimited talk/text with...
    2GB of data $15/mo
    8GB of data for $20/mo
    12GB of data for $25/mo

    Walmart charges....

    $45 + tax for 25GB/mo
$55 + tax for "unlimited" (60GB then subject to throttling)

"hahaha average users use about 5gigs I was wondering about that."

It depends man. If you're going to be replacing your cable setup, you'll need more than that. Streaming movies and TV Shows use a ton of bandwidth. 7 years ago I could do nearly a gig a day just on Netflix at the Gym on a *phone*.

mint user here. speed is good, even watching youtube via the hotspot. signal isn't quite up there with verizon, but it's decent (sometimes lose it in the elevators at work).

if you end up not being a huge data user, (and you have a compatible phone), you may give google Fi a look....$20 for unlimited talk/text, and 10/gb for data, up to 6gb for a single user (above that, no added data charge, but they slow down at 15 gb); if you spec low and go over, $10/gb. if you spec high, and use less, they credit you back for the data you didn't use. signal is better than Mint because they split between (last i read) sprint and tmobile, so a little better 'penetration' indoors, but a little more expensive.

Yep... you'll blast through 5gb in no time just streaming music on the road to and from work.

Welcome to yesteryear, on the plus side, you've chosen a great time to jump into the smartphone game. Good phones, good prices, they're itty bitty super computers at this point! You missed out on the days of terrible battery life, paying for GPS apps, paying per MB and slow laggy bottom of the barrel phones.

Tips to lower down your DATA usage are things like when using Youtube (360dpi or less). Using the free WiFi when you can.

Maybe it's the usage amount for the 7 day trial? Or did you setup the new phone and download all your apps via cellular instead of wifi?

I didn't download anything but theres a buttload of apps in there. As I said I am a new user, I do not know anything of this.

I wouldn't know if or where to get their app.

All I know is DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE USE GOOGLE SEARCH. What a gig vacuum.
