win 10: available networks

why can i not see available networks when using win 10. i stumbled on a "surveillance " cam logged into my network that is not mine. this was while using the xfi app on my i phone. i was able to stop the connection permanently.
now when i am on my computer running win 10, i cannot view all available networks near me ?

I would guess Windows got stuck on stupid (common, try a reboot, or reboot router? ), or wireless adapter disabled via Windows interface or application for the device...

Do you have a WiFi switch, or a keyboard icon for WiFi if it is a notebook?

Are your NICs enabled (blue rather than greyed out)?

Is your wifi set to WPA2? Makes no sense why anyone would connect their IP cam to someone else's network in the first place. Maybe you accidentally connected to an OPEN wifi cam? When I check my available networks list I see quiet a few OPEN printers and thermostats.

Anyways, as far as available networks list...
Is the Discover Networks option set to ON?
Control Panel> Network and Internet> Network Sharing Center> Advanced sharing settings> Network discovery.

Are you using windows wifi drivers for your wifi adapter or 3rd party drivers? Most usb/pci wifi adapters come with their own software that shows the available wifi networks list.

my home computer is hardwired. i discovered a surveillance camera logged into my network that is not mine. i can see all active devices on my i phone, but not on my home computer.

where exactly did you discover this camera? was it in your modem/router's control panel? since your computer is hardwired, and I assume it has no wifi adapter, you're not going to see other wifi access points around you.

thxx jeremyy.....that worked like a charm. as it turns out.....my roommate had "named" his i-phone "surveillance cam".......and that is what i was seeing on my i-phone under available networks. he said he does this so when he uses wifi away from home....such as starbucks, etc.....any bad guys will see his phone shown as a cam. thxx all

I will say any "bad guy" will know it's a iPhone pretty darn quick. Haha.

Especially if they use/used WiFi Kill to kick Apple products off any AP/Router...
