People drop unused SSDs on eBay when they upgrade from a new pre-built system, and sell them for CHEAP!
If you are willing to chance sellers lying about the device being unused, just check the S.M.A.R.T. data when you get the SSD (I have returned at least one based on S.M.A.R.T.). You can file a claim if they are lying, but I have had really good luck with new SSD pulls for years w/ virtually no power-on hour counts. I used to get 80GB Intel mSATA SSDs for like $28-$38, when SSDs were a newer thing a few years ago, and that was a GREAT price back then, when SSDs were priced way higher. This Christmas I just gave away my last 80GB to my niece in a notebook, so I was looking for more, larger options.
The keywords are (no quotes, or with quotes depending on their wording order) "new pull", so a "samsung new pull ssd" has 128GB Samsung m.2 SSDs for $24 EA! Granted you have to buy a $5-$8 m.2 to SATA adapter, but SSD prices are only going to go down, and the adapter can be reused, and adapters appear to be virtually a pass-through w/no controller (just a mosfet, and a few SMC capacitors, but at $5-$8 get a few!). Great Samsung SSD prices can be had, especially if you run machines pretty-lean...
Just thought I'd pass on some cheap SSD options for Calgunners in the Tech. forums, as most Samsung 128gb SSDs sell for like $40-$57.
USB 3.0/3.1 external SSD... best option for a fast external, RAID, Linux/tinker notebooks, and thrashers).
Most are listed as "New (other)", Click US only, and New on the left for weeding-out Refurbished, Pre-Owned, and China knock-offs, then sort by price and read descriptions...
Waiting for the 2 m.2 SSD I got, and the adapters.
