Where/when to buy new home computer?

Our current home computer is old and tired and slllllooooowwwww, so I want to replace it. Nothing fancy, just the basics like:

Decent speed and memory (prefer icore processor, not celeron)
No gaming
Mostly used for the basics (internet, excel, word, publisher, photoshop, card program, etc...)
Wifi/wireless
CD/DVD drive
Couple of USB ports

I have a monitor, so just need a tower. Is newegg the place to go, or ??? And would it pay to wait until cyberMonday or something like that? Thanks

I used to use Dell. Configure it the way you want it. Then I heard Lenovo has surpassed Dell in quality so my last computer (a laptop) is a Lenovo. Again, configured the way I want it. It's a powerful beast and I use it to run CAD. More expensive than a similarly equipped tower but I can take it with me when I visit clients. At home, using a special adapter, I use my old Apple 30" high resolution display.

Bought my last desktop (mini tower) from Walmart. It is a HP with Intel I5 and DVD and standard USB ports. Right at $300 about 6 months ago. With Black Friday deals, you should be able to get a better deal.

I was in the same boat and bought a i3 tower 2 years ago from Staples for just under $300 on Black Friday. I would wait for Black Friday and then just order online or quickly walk by the riots in the TV area. Nobody is going to bum rush the desktops.

Try backing up your data on a thumb drive or cloud storage.
Then use the hard drives recovery discs or recovery drive to reinstall the operating system.
My XP HP desktop was slooooow etc painfully so.
After the recovery,its sprit and fine!
Use the $300 for ammo and parts before Gavin screws the pooch.

If you are interested in a Dell, they start running slick deals after Thanksgiving. Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and even after that. And they usually have a promo running with Amex too, that you can stack on top of the Dell discounts.

Depending on if your close to a goodwill computer store you could score a great deal.
I believe Fridays are always 25% off on selected units.
About a year ago I grabbed a HP workstation normally selling for 15K for $350
About top of the line you can get even at today's standards.
YMMV but worth a trip if there is one close.

Current computer is an HP purchased in 2010. I'm not at home at the moment, so I don't recall the model. I "settled" on it because the store ran out of the better/quicker model (black Friday shopping). I've never liked it, and it acts like it could poop out at any moment.

I'm not interested in rebuilding/restoring it.

Check out Dell Outlet online too, those are typically new computers sold but returned unused by customers and you get a nice discount. Maybe have a scratch or 2 but usually very minor.

Since I have a 19" rack, I generally just buy guts, and reuse the case, and DVD writer. $80-$150 in savings this way.

Depending upon what the new components require, a new power supply might be needed as well. A good option, though most people aren't savvy enough to build up a new computer from parts.
