    Kindle question

I am planning on buying the paper white kindle. Does the case color effect readability?

doubt it. You're reading the screen, not the case.

If you are not planning to buy a lot of books from Amazon, there are better options, i. e. Kobo.

It doesn't matter where you get your books. I use Calibre, a free program to convert any book format to the one my readers use.

I'm not sure how the color of a case would effect how well you could read a screen. If the case is closed you can't read it. If it is open you can see the screen. If you are going to get the paperwhite kindle take the time to find one of the Japan only "manga" versions. That model comes with 32gb of storage. The normal one only has 8gb.

I got the top-of-the-line Kindle Oasis, and while it's pretty cool, it wasn't worth the extra money over the latest Paperwhite.

Also, it hurts more when you read in bed, fall asleep and drop the Kindle onto your face.

The case is optional, but make sure you apply a screen protector. The screen scratches very easily.

I use Calibre as well but the point was that there are better units out there than Kindle and will accept more formats. Kindle is really only convenient for people that want to download books from Amazon.

I don’t know much about the kobo readers, other then the price is comparable to kindle. I don’t worry about ebook format since Calibre automatically converts them to the reader it sends it to.

I always preferred the old model nook simple with light and sad card slot. Since those aren’t made anymore I picked up the kindle manga version. I’ve been real happy with that one.

Do people really read, or need to read in direct sunlight?

The LG G-pad X 8.0" 32GB V520 works GREAT for me, but I mostly read web pages (calguns) or shop on it when at lunch at work, or out and about WiFi tethered. This looks to be the same price as the paperwhite @$139 The seller is in Cali, so there will be tax, but nice and quick with so many more options than mainly books...

                Accepts MicroSD up to 128GB, 8MP and 5MP cameras. 5GHz 802.11N.

You can install Kindle on all tablets AFAIK, and this baby has a button to switch to B&W too.

No. The cases I have do not in any way cover the screen.

If you intend on surfing and skiing in the same day it could happen. I could see someone sitting on the beach reading a book. Now, a book is not what I'd be looking at while at the beach, but perhaps that is just me.

Case color is cosmetic. The Paperwhite Kindle is very readable indoors and out.

Hahaha I read on an Ipad 2 using the kindle app. Have about knocked myself senseless.

I personally like reading on my Amazon tablet since you can set "blue light" for night time reading. Makes a huge difference compared to the bright white light on my Kindle.

I've never had the urge to sit in the sun and read. But if I wanted to the ereader screens are way better for it then a normal tablet screen. Your LG works great for you and burns through the battery a whole lot faster then an ereader. My wife has a few nook color/tablet models she reads with. I can't break her of the habit. The batteries only last a fraction of the time of the nook simple and kindles.

Paperwhite does not need a daily recharge, which makes it great for when one is off the grid, backpacking etc.
