iPhone for camera use only

I want to buy an iPhone only to use the camera. Ebay has auctions for iPhones that are iCloud/Find my iPhone locked and others that have a bad IMEI.

I know iCloud/Find my iPhone locked phones are possibly stolen, but what about the phones with a bad IMEI? When I check the Ebay item's IMEI with Sprint, I get a message about outstanding bills.

My question is, can I still use the camera if the phone has a bad IMEI? Will the phone start up and get to the main screen?

Wouldn't you be better by buying a camera instead? I don't know much about I phones, but if it is locked or broke in any way, why buy it. I myself have a flip phone, I use my flip phone for calls only. I just moved to a new state and was considering upgrading to an iPhone for the GPS. I considered the price and bought a Garmin GPS for 200.00. It has a large screen and loud voice. She gets confused a bit sometimes but mostly gets me where I need to go until I get my bearings in my new state and city.

As far as a wonky IMEI, Why bother?

You might be supporting either a thief or someone selling lost and phone phones vs returning to the owner...

You can get a used Digital Camera for cheap - something with Optical Zoom

If your sole purpose is to use the iPhone as a camera, you are better off buying a camera. Phone cameras are mediocre at best compare to a camera.

If you want to use the phone for wifi connectivity and camera only, have you considered looking for a used phone with the best camera? Pixel has a better camera than iPhone and they should be available used by now.

The reason why I want an iPhone is because I am using an app called Switcher Studio. It is only compatible with iOS devices like iPhones, iPads, and Macs. It is like a mini-live broadcast studio. It is capable of handling up to 9 video input devices via WIFI. I already have an iPhone, iPads, and a Mac. I want to add more cameras.

For action shooting you could set up a camera downrange and point it uprange and control it from the firing line. I bought an iPhone with a crack in the screen with a working camera for 40 bucks. If the iPhone gets shot, at least I'm not out a lot of money. I'm looking for another camera like that. I've seen iPhones with 64GB and bad IMEI's for as little as 5 bucks. I just need the camera and WIFI to work.

I have a perfect condition iPhone 4 if u want it. It spent its entire life in several lifeproof cases, not a scratch. I upgraded due to only 8 gigs of memory. Now on an 8 plus 256 gigs. Make me an offer or trade for reloading components, sig jig, or other things...

I use a case from a company called iOgrapher. Unfortunately, they don't make a case for the iPhone 4. I need something from the iPhone 5 family, in particular the SE.

For under $200, if you are looking to spend that much for just a smartphone with a nice camera, check the resolutions you can get with Androids, or an SLR? The storage is cheaper... (and swappable )?

Unfortunately the app I'm using (Switcher Studio) as an audio/video switcher is only compatible with iOS products. I've seen some amazing projects shot with iPhones, in particular iPhone SE and above. These phones have the ability to shoot video in 4K.

A feature length movie released in 2015 was shot entirely with iPhone 5S cameras. The subject matter of the movie is strange (transgender sex industry in L.A,) but the technical aspects are interesting.

I contacted two Ebay retailers and explained what I need. They don't sell iCloud locked phones for obvious reasons, but they do sell phones with bad ESNs that can't be activated, which is fine with me. I just need phones with working WIFI and working cameras.
