Every tab asks to download a. Swf file

Every CGN tab I open asks to download an swf file. Anyone know what it is?

".swf" used to stand for Shockwave Flash, but, according to Wikipedia, it apparently now means "small web format". Either way, it's your browser trying to play embedded videos using Flash player, but Android doesn't support Flash anymore, so you get the download notification because the system doesn't know what to do with it natively.

Out of curiosity, is it actually *every* thread you open? I only ever get that on threads where somebody stuck a youtube video inline somewhere (on my Galaxy S7 - my HTC One M9 doesn't even bother trying).

I have no clue how, or why, but my lady got hit with something that effected every browser, due to my daughter installing games on her tablet...

She had an update, and factory-reset the device, and for some reason opening any browser caused the browser to start to load, then Force-Close. I factory reset it, myself, let the updates happen w/out installing anything and this resolved it. What a nightmare. An Android update whacked out the browsers, until application updates finished. Weird.

Does this happen with Firefox? Chrome? The default "Browser" (if not Chrome, or a hidden Chrome variant)?

If just Opera, just remove Opera, then reinstall it...
(Bookmarks and settings are hosed if you do, but this should resolve it.)
