    excel experts?

why is it only Excel that when you open another file from flie manager/explorer, the dang thing opens it in the same instance vs. two separate instances like powerpoint, word, etc.

Anyone here know how to do this? internet searches didn't qive me working solutions. my work uses a "old" version - 2010

Yes. Instead of clicking on an excel file, launch the application, then open the file you want from the application. That way, you can have two excel files open at the same time. I am running Office 2010, too.

To resolve this, go to 'excel options' > click on the 'advanced' tab > scroll down to general > check the ignore other applications that use 'Dyanamic Data Exchange (DDE)'

yeah, forgot to say i know that. just got tired of having to manually open a new instance.

I think this is a big in 2010. Open Excel, and then press shift while opening again, and you'll get 2 windows.

You can launch as many windows as you'd like directly from the desktop.

The issue is when you have one open, then double-click another file, it opens in the same window rather than a fresh one.

Wouldn't be such a big deal if you didn't have to leave the "home" tab to change the viewed file. The tabs and general cumbersome interface started with Office 2010. 2013 got worse.
