Buying a Windows 10 license key on eBay.. how doe it work?

Forgive my ignorance, but I need to understand what I need to do to get what I want. I have an older workstation that currently have Windows 7 on it. It was my daughters, and the OS is riddled with viruses. I want to format the drive, and install Windows 10. I do not have any Windows OS media to use to load, so I need to get a copy. Can I buy a license on eBay, and then use it to download an OS from Microsoft? Or do I need to buy a full new distribution kit?

you can get a free copy of the accessible windows straight from the Microsoft website. you don't have to enable any of the features that a disabled person would use and it is the same version of windows you would buy from them.

I was recently in the market, for a coworker's rig to get Win10 reinstalled on an SSD, but no disc.

Downloaded the USB tool, which downloaded files needed, dropped them on a USB stick, and made it bootable.

Installed flawlessly, and appears to be activated.

As I understand it, the key is tied to hardware, all out of reach from us mere mortals, if non-retail?

My first non-upgrade of Windows 10 went smoothly. Only 1st non-upgrade because I refuse to install/use it on my rigs due to it being so much slower on everything I have used it on. The Apr 2018 update fixed some issues that were troublesome (RDP passwd was ALWAYS not in focus when run, and had to click in the passwd box every time, and couldn't even ATL-TAB to another application, then back, as it still stayed out of focus, for example).

If you have an older computer, you're better off with Win8.1, and classic shell.

You have to be careful buying a Win10 key on ebay etc. Generally, if it's too good to be true, it probably is. Often times these keys are a from a bulk license that can later get revoked. Best Buy is selling windows 10 for around 100 bucks which is about as cheap as a legitimate copy currently gets.

              Yes,

The accessible version was free. Is it still the case? That would be the way to go.

That's what I recently did too. Worked flawlessly.

There is a script I ran across (someone wrote) that will reveal the license.

It's easy.. do it directly or download the tool and build bootable CD/DVD or USB to install. The PC I built last month had the key in the BIOS so it was automatic.

If not, buy the key from eBay for $3 when Windows 10 starts asking for it. Don't buy it before.
