    Windows 10 question.

Under Win 7, when put to sleep, my two external (Western Digital) hard drives would keep spinning. Now that I've upgraded to Win 10, I noticed that when put to sleep, my new two external hard drives (a Fantom 2TB 7200 HD and a Buffalo 2TB 7200RPM HD) will also sleep. I haven't tinkered with these drives (just plug and play other then whatever Win 10 does when a new peripheral connets). I don't have the WD drives (which were 6+ years old) to connect to see if they sleep.

Just wondering if this is a Win 10 feature. I can't find mention of this on the internet. Also, all four drives using USB 2.0 (don't have 3.0 ports...yet).

I'm going to guess that the USB ports are going to sleep which puts the drives to sleep.
    Power Options
    Change Plan Settings
    Change Advanced Power Settings
    USB Settings

I can't answer your question specifically OP but... My win 10 never ran consistently until I updated all the drivers on my laptop. All kinds of goofy wonky stuff going on before. Runs great now.

BAMM! There is a USB power setting to sleep when the PC goes night-night (enabled by default). I like that. Saves me from remembering to power down the external hard drives. Thanks FresnoRob.
