    Recomendation wanted

Christmas is coming up and I'm thinking of getting the grand kids, aged 5 and 8, tablets. Seems like they are always arguing about who gets to play with mom or dad's phone, so I'm thinking this will replace that. Right? Mostly for wifi use at home, but also for traveling.
I've looked at a few, but I'm not really savvy about what's needed.
I've seen that the higher price ones offer more memory. I saw a Samsung that was advertised as being able to add memory.
    So, what would they need?
    Can they down load games?
They play Minecraft all the time (drives me nuts). Can they do this with a tablet? Or Chrome book, etc.?
And, then there is price. I doubt that I need a $300 one, but are the $80 any good?
    Any help will be appreciated.

Amazon Fire tablets should work. They have an expandable memory slot. $84 for one with 16 gigs memory and no special offers (ads).

Right now, I'm thinking that a larger 10" screen might be better.
The Amazon is about $150. Other off brands are a lot cheaper.
      How about something like this--

The family does have Amazon Prime, so would this be a advantage to buy the Amazon?

I bought one of these last year at best buy black Friday.

It uses android software and Google play for games.
Bought it online black Friday and picked it up during the week.
        Not child proof.

Here is a link to the kids versions.

I would get at least 16gb.

Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.
I really miss the good old Pomona Gun Shows.

They can get on Amazon Prime if the parents have it. So they can access what's available. Do they want a 10" screen or do you? I read some of the reviews, they can play Mind Craft. If your looking to not spend a lot, Amazon Fire. The others, is there support, a following or is it out there on its own.

          Your call, your money.

            Yea, that's the problem.
How to tell what's best for a kid. They use their parents phones a lot and also a 13" laptop. It's what they have, but what would they prefer? Since they'll use it mostly at home, is a bigger screen better?
There are a lot of off brand products which MAY be as good or better than some popular brands. But like you said, what's the support? It's some times hard to find reviews.
They do have Amazon prime. Could they use it if they have another brand?
I've seen that a comparable Lenovo 10" is about $95 vs $160 for the Amazon.
The 8" Amazon it a lot cheaper, but I'd go more $$ it was better.

I bought 2 of the 7" Amazon Fire Tablets last Black Friday for $33 for my boys (7 yrs old) and they've been solid. Lots of Minecraft, Roblox, etc... They also use it for Netflix and Prime Video. Probably buy some back ups this year if they go on sale again.

Amazon fire 8". The 7" screens are a little small. Bu the 10" screen is a lot more to carry around, hold and balance. Doesn't matter for the 8 year old but the 5 year old will appreciate it.

I have gotten some really bad tablets, such as the RCA tablets from Walmart.
Terrible screens with only one good viewing angle.

                  Check reviews.

I've given my grandkids amazon tablets, samsung tablets and ipads. They really don't care what brand they are as long as they can play the games they like. One advantage to the amazon tablets is they sell a childs version. This allows you to set up restrictions fairly easily and they have a no fault 2 year replacement warranty. I know other tablets have the restrictions but the warranty is pretty nice to have when little hands are holding expensive electronics.

The Amazon 8 is going be on black Friday sale for $50. This sale MAY start tomorrow. Also at Best Buy for the same price. The 7 will be also be on sale for $30.
I think I'll pick up a couple of the 8's.
                      Thanks for all the comments.

The Fire is a great choice. I'd also invest in a good cover because 5 and 8 year olds drop things. The Fire 8 for Kids would be an especially good choice. They have a special offer if you buy two.
