I just bought this last weekend and it made a world of a difference from an old cheap one I had. I put the extension in the garage and the dl speeds are 42-50mbps in the entire house (2 story 1900sf). I also swapped my modem since that was limiting my speed as well.
Plugged it in and did a couple firmware updates on my phone and everything was up and running in an hour.

edit: they also have a 15% off promotion if you recycle your old modem or router

It you want a basic router, do not do much tech-stuff the Asus routers a reasonably priced, and work well for regular people.

If you dig in real deep and want external access w/out issue, I say go with something else... that is less glitchy and more stable with disable and enable port fw's, and you can access on even Firefox with https (my Asus is real buggy once enabling https). The Asus i have even bounces wireless when adding a MAC res, or throttling my son's rigs (when he is grounded), etc.

Same here... I've tried many and this is the best of the ones I've had.

Go with another Linksys. It seems your current one lasted a long time as will a new one.

I've had various Linksys routers and modems (some over 10+ years) and they are still doing the job.

Any of you use the speed test app to see how strong your signal is? Not standing next to it but where you would normally use it, on the couch, bedroom, garage?

                  60M Down 35M Up

2700 sqft home opposite corner from router

Move right next to it and it shows the exact same. I think it is a limitation on my old Samsung 5 phone.

Damn that’s fast! TWC spectrum here, what internet provider do you have? My modem is limited to 50m but my mac hardwired was 116m last time I checked.

For a really good basic router, you can't beat the Porter Cable 690.

Check the reviews on smallnetbuilder.com and thewirecutter.com.

Archer C9 was ok when it came out, but that was nearly three years ago. For the same price there are better routers available, and for $30-40 more you can get something much better.

+1 on Asus routers. I have an RT-AC66U and it has been great for the past 5 years. I believe there are more high end versions of this router available now. I recommend you go with a router that uses 802.11AC.
