New iPhone?

X

everyone has a phtographic memory, some just dont have the film -
I'll probably just grin and bear the price when I buy my new iPhone X next week on the 27th.
My entire extended family uses iPhones and Apple computers. Don't let anyone tell you they suck because in my opinion they are the best available.
When I say extended family I'm referring to roughly 25 adults. I can't think of one family member that still uses an android. Some have tried them but now have iPhones.Comment

I actually went with the 8+. The X won't be available to us for at least another month, so the 8 seemed like the best option. My 6S+ works fine, but a new phone is a new phone, especially if it's free.It was not a threat. It was an exaggerated response to an uncompromising stance. I was taught never to make a threat unless you are prepared to carry it out and I am not a fan of carrying anything. Even watching other people carrying things makes me uncomfortable. Mainly because of the possibility they may ask me to help.Comment

I had a 6plus and went with an 8plus just recently. I probably could have gone one year more before really needing to upgrade, but my battery was starting to show it's age, so I figured why not.
What being said, the 8 is super speedy compared to the 6. You have a 6s, so you may not notice as much of a difference, but you should see some. The 8 is quite quick.
I had originally been waiting for the X until I saw the price and its actual features. There's no real difference between it and the 8 besides the screen. I didn't think paying for the screen was worth it. Aside from that, the deletion of the home button on the X was actually a negative for me. I wanted the home button and the finger print sensor. I have 8 or so years of using an iphone with a home button and I really didn't relish unlearning all that muscle memory to use the phone in a different way.
So the 8 works just fine for me and is what I need. The phone is quite speedy and the camera is pretty phenomenal. It takes really nice looking photos is almost any situation but very low light. The 2x zoom is also quite nice vs having to use digital zoom on the previous iphones I have.
If you are really feeling you need an upgrade over your 6s, I say go for it. The 8 is quite a nice upgrade. Just my 2 cents, but that's what I did.Last edited by Iknownot; 10-18-2017, 1:59 PM.Comment

I am not a big fan of Apple products but both wife and I use iPhone 6s. We've had them for about 2 years and I must admit they've been problem free for us.
I use mine extensively for work, not so much for voice calls but for GPS navigation, company VPN login, SAML 2.0 login authentication, emails, SMS, airline boarding passes, hotel check-in/out and doing product demonstration (my employer has a really nice app that I show on my iPhone).
The biggest complain I have for the 6s is battery life. It is adequate for my wife, who is a stay-at-home wife and charge the phone anytime she wants, but is not quite enough for a working professional who needs to use the phone while on the road. Especially when using GPS apps such as Uber or Waze, the battery goes down too quickly.
To make things worse, most smartphones like the iPhone 6s do not have easily replaceable battery which you can simply drop the exhausted battery and slap in a fresh one like the way you'll reload your semi-auto pistol.
To get around the issue, I carry my iPhone 6s with Apple's Smart battery case. It provides an on-device external battery that is always on the phone and the phone will also show how much charge I have both on the internal battery as well as on the case. When the case battery is exhausted, I can take the phone out of the case and leave it to recharge while I carry on with the internal battery; similar to how jet planes can jettison their external fuel tanks when they're exhausted. So far it has been an acceptable solution for my use, while I have frequently exhausted the battery on the smart case, the internal battery has never been overly taxed.
I will hold out and wait to see how good is the iPhone X before deciding if iPhone 8 is a good enough replacement. I'm particularly interested in battery endurance when GPS apps are enabled, and also what are the options for external battery like the smart case. Hoping they'll have an even better smart case that is lighter and yet provide more battery life.Last edited by bigbearbear; 10-18-2017, 11:43 PM.Comment

If the company is buying it, fine. Unless you work for Apple, I would question the company's business sense. There is no way I would spend hundreds of dollars on a cell phone when I can easily spend under $100 for one that will work just fine. Apple marketing is quite amazing.Comment

Yeah - our IT head is the very definition of "fanboy". I let him talk me into a MacBook when my last Windows laptop died. All that ended up doing was guaranteeing I only use it for work.If the company is buying it, fine. Unless you work for Apple, I would question the company's business sense. "Apple shares fells 2.8 percent in early Thursday trading after reports out of Taiwan that the tech giant has slashed orders
for the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus by nearly 50 percent for the rest of the year.
The production cuts are another blow for the brand new iPhone 8, which earlier in the week was reportedly being outsold by last year’s iPhone 7."

My company issued Blackberrys for years before switching to iPhones about 5 years ago. The Blackberrys were a nightmare for our phone guy and IT department while the iPhones have been great. Constant hardware/software issues with the Blackberrys. If iPhones had the physical keyboard like the Blackberry it would be perfect for me.sigpicComment

Technically I like the samsung phones, but I just don't trust Google (android) enough that I want them touching my devices.
Apple is a Hardware company they say, but I think they are more a user experience company.
All their stuff seamlessly works together. no screwing around.
Google makes most of their money off of advertising still I believe.
I use Gmail begrudgingly because I made an account way back when.
I recently had my iphone 6 stolen, and insurance mis-shipped and sent me a 6+.
Nice phone, and I'm enjoying the larger screen, took a few weeks to get used to it.
I skipped the 7 obviously, so I'm liekly going to wait until 10/27 and get the XLooking for a 3" Magnum 870 $200-$250ishComment

I have 6 and my employer will pay for upgrade to 8 or X, but I have been holding out to see the X. I like the idea of having the largest iphone screen without the 'plus' size phone baggage. But I will miss the home button/touch ID. So I'm still not sure what to do...Comment

I’ve been happy with my 7 plus.
The camera and ability to run Lightroom for my photography was a huge selling point for me.
Statistically, the iPhone 7 is selling better then the 8Comment

Smaller form factor but you have the largest screen ever put on an iPhone, with highest res. And the first OLED screen on an iPhone. That is win-win-win-win in my book.
I went ahead and got the X, still waiting for it. Hopefully I can hang with no home button. It is already bad enough I will need an adapter to jack in my tunes to my audio panel.Comment
