    Looking for dash cam recomendations

After doing some research, I'm more confused than ever. I'm looking for something clear enough to be able to read license plates that can be easily moved from car to car (think rental cars) and is easy to use. Any recommendations will be appreciated.

    Street Guardian.

It mounts up behind the mirror, can be hardwired with a PSU or connected to a 12V socket.

Mine came with a clear plastic sheet that looks like the protective film for an LCD, but it's actually to make it portable.
Pick up an extra mount, stick it to the sheet, and stick the sheet to the windshield of the rental like an oil change sticker.

Looking at it on Amazon, it doesn't look like they still include that sheet.

I have a 64gb chip in mine and it's good for 4 days to and from work... about 3 hours a day or so.

These (really, all dashcams) have very wide angle lenses, so you do have to be pretty close to pick out the plate.

I don't think you'll find a dash cam the will read a license plate at speed unless your on their @$$. At a light or low speed only.
As far as portable, unless the dashcam is made to be portable, I think you'll have to make which ever one you get "portable". Most all are, at the minimum, sticky tape mounted or attached maybe to the rear view mirror. I suppose you could just buy a package of double stick foam tape to go from rental car to rental car if that is a main concern. Cleaning off the tape each time would be annoying though.
And not having the cam solidly mounted will affect the clarity of the recording.

all dash cams have a g force sensor, (the good ones), so mounting them securely is a must.

Most do, but be aware that it is illegal to record conversations in the vehicle without notification.

My wife's A110 came with a red sticker that provided that warning.

Personally, I keep the audio shut off.

I use a Rexing V1 because it's one of the few decent low profile dash cams. It's 1080P with a 170 degree field of view. It is a power hog so make sure that you power it from a good source and turn it off or disconnect power when the engine is off.

I'll see what I have in my commuter it's been a good camera for me rexwing something or other. It has a rear camera as well. My wife asked why I have the mic turned off. I told her if I get killed in a wreck the last thing I want her hearing in my death noises.

I have a quite a few cheap dashcams. Nothing over 40 bucks. None of them have the video quality to read a license plate unless they are directly in front of you in daylight.

I have two that look identical on the outside, but the electronics are not. The best one so far overall is a Cobra that is discontinued. It has a good solid mount to a suction cup attachment. Unless the suction cup and window are absolutely clean, the mount falls off. The Cobra also has GPS that monitors your speed and direction. Not sure if I like that or not. https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_n...=cobra+dashcam

All of my other dashcams are no-name brands from China. I'll pull some video from the various cams and post it here.
