    New phone activation question

So my note 4 finally took a dump.

    Backstory

Went to att store to buy a note 8 outright. Chick told me her system will only select the monthly payment option, but I can pay it off when it arrives at store. She tries to assure me it won't change my plan. (I have an old unlimited plan)

She tried to make me sign on the line agreeing to the payment plan crap but I ask why does it say payment plan when I'm buying it outright? I ask if it can be amended to just say purchasing phone for full price? Nope. These people are like used car sale man. Try anyway to screw ya into a new plan. They tried to delete my unlimited plan a few years ago and overcharged me on some crap.

I'm able to buy online without all this funny business of payment plan stuff, so my question is..

If I order the phone, can I just swap in my sim card (assuming they are both same size) and go about my way? I can swap between my old note 4's no problem, Or do I really have to go in to "activate" the phone and be charged with some bs "upgrade fee"?

    Thanks

You should be able to just swap the SIM card. IIRC, the note 4 also uses the micro SIM. If not, it should come with a SIM and you should be able to just call the phone company and activate the new SIM. It may require a activation fee, but it may not. Who's your carrier?

Did you buy the Note8 direct from Samsung? You should be able to get the deals if they aren't already sold out.

Not sure how AT&T will try to screw you, but I'd count on them finding some way.

I haven't bought it yet. I can buy it directly from att website. I'll look at Samsungs website to see if there is any difference.

Won't 611 take care of your question?

Interesting. An unlocked one from Samsungs website is 20 bucks cheaper than when an att phone is selected. Plus they include bonus gift.

Just a side note. Dumped att for Cricket Wireless some time ago and have never looked back, saving a lot of money.

Cricket is wholly owned by AT&T.

                      Bring your own phone ...

Get started on bringing your device to AT&T if you bought it from somewhere other than AT&T.

Bought a replacement phone on Ebay. Took it to AT&T, they installed a new sim card, activated it and I was on my way in 10 minutes.

Yes, you can just put your old sim card in the new phone and it will work. As long as the old sim card fits. I've done that a bunch of times with AT&T before I dumped those idiots.

You are better off with the Samsung factory version without all the AT&T bloatware.

"Chick told me her system will only select the monthly payment option"

My favorite thing to do when a sales person says something idiotic like that,
                            turn & walk out.
No questions, no pleading to their sensibilities, no pointing out their absurdity, no asking for the manager.

                            Silently turn around & exit.

Got my Note 8 yesterday and I'm loving it. My Note 4 still works so I'll keep it as a backup. Just added the new sim to my account as a replacement phone but I'm with Verizon.
