    Well I did it.

Now I was going thru my boxes in my garage, then I saw it for the first time in many, many, many years. It was my old CB radio. I decided to pull it out and connect it up to find out if it still worked. Just remember, I am thinking the old days. Got it working and there was a lot of white noise, but no talking. This was the same for all 40 channels. I could not believe there was nobody talking. I listened for many hours & channels. Nothing. Finally I heard somebody way out there. But you have to understand I am barefoot. Tried to get back to him, he did not hear me. At least I knew I had ears. I was just in awe, the way it is now. So much fun, pain and misery in the days of CB. You know what I mean.

Save the CB for when the aliens from outer space invade. Then at least you'll have a way to communicate with other doomed individuals.

      I remember those CB days.

      ...after the dinosaurs, before disco.

Good times, bad times, you know we've had our share.

All you young-uns, for us old folks, this was the internet. But all we had to pay for was the radio and antenna. The farther you wanted to talk, the more or better equipment you bought. My friend, (no not me) talked to a woman with a hot voice for weeks and then decided to meet her, MMMMOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!

OP - Didn't you hear any truckers on channel 19?

I still have two mobile 40 channel CB radios and a President Washington base station. I'm keeping them in case of a disaster. I could hook one up for my sisters who live a mile away and we could stay in contact.

Anyone know if the CHP still monitors channels 9 and 19?

                  Agree^^
theres more traffic on ham bands, VHF is probably the most popular . You can buy an inexpensive handheld or mobile on ebay.
Many of them will operate on both UHF & VHF

radioreference.com will have a section that lists all the frequencies in your area.

OP you would like HAM Radio. Get licensed to General and talk direct to guys in other countries from your work bench or while you drive to the store to get groceries

GMRS is the new CB, every weather or fire event I hear several private GMRS repeaters come up and a HOA net take place, they only identify using street names as a handle - badges we aint got no stinking badges. Since I can hear both the net controller and the ht, they are using quality HT's, not bubble packs.

I searched the FCC database for the repeaters, no dice, these are Ham's that have setup HOA systems. I never hear the GMRS repeaters unless an event happens.

I assume CB Band is dead.
