    Anyone using Chromebooks here?

Cost / entry point is pretty attractive, sub $200. Wondering what these are good for. Anyone using one? What can you do, what can't you do, what do you wish it could do?

My wife has one. I think it's basically a mobile web browser.
    Handy for what it does.

It's basically just internet and Google Apps.

The best Chromebooks are affordable alternatives to Windows laptops or MacBooks, here are 5 I recommend based on our testing and reviews.

I use a Samsung Chromebook Pro pretty regularly. Overall a pretty excellent machine that I use for travel. Basically, it can do whatever my phone does.

If you really like the idea of an Android tablet built like a laptop with a keyboard then a Chromebook might be for you.

ChromeOS isn't the same as Android, but the concept is pretty close.

I use it w/my phone as a hotspot for work. I work out of a service van so no wifi for me.

They are great if you don't need a hard drive. They boot up instantly. If you turn them off after each use, the battery lasts for a long long time.

            Well worth the money IMHO

I have one, a Toshiba with a 13" screen. I use it for web browsing, email, and streaming video. It works great and has a long battery life. I got it as a factory refurb for like $150...totally worth it.

Thanks, guys. What OS do these things run? How are app choices?

They run Chrome OS and you are pretty much limited to the apps in the Chrome app store and some Chrome browser add-ins. Some ChromeBooks do have the ability to run Android apps too.

I support over 1,000 of them at work. Management is easy via the Google Admin Console. Push an app or a setting to any or all devices with a couple of clicks.

It's basically a tablet built around the Chrome browser. For personal use, good for typical web surfing or cloud-based document management. Be aware Google is deprecating support for Flash at a rapid rate.

Ok guys, thanks again for the feedback. Going to think about if one of these would work for me.

Also manage these at work, a school district, we have 12,000 + and counting...

Good for the Internet and Google Apps IF YOU use them. If you need to do more such as MS Office then you'll need Office 365 as you can only install Chrome and limited Android apps for right now.

Also, any software you need Photoshop/Lightroom won't work.

My work desktop is a Chromebox and I still need a PC since we have legacy docs in MS Office I need to edit.

At home I use an Nvidia Shield K1 tablet $200 for most of my stuff, light portable, powerful and plays great games. I can carry this 8" tablet everywhere and hotspot to my phone for a larger screen. Easy access to my work and personal Google Apps. I think better than a Chromebook. I'm multi system - have Win10 and Mac too for more specialized functions.
