A little back story...I have a background in electronics. Mostly ham radio and CB. I started restoring and upgrading vintage tube equipment in the early 90's when there was a big market for the old gear.
I was a late starter in computers. Started with a WebTV as my first experience with the internet.
Then I actually bought a PC and got into online gaming. Shortly after that I started building bleeding edge gaming rigs and got into overclocking and water cooling when it was all DIY for the most part.
Then I kinda got out of it. My current PC is a Alienware SLI machine that does not have one game on it. I use it for my work which I do digitizing.
Part of it was/is where I have lived for the last 10 years has only had AT&T DSL. Stated with 1.5 meg speeds. It went up to 6 megs then back down to 3 megs as more folks in the neighborhood signed up.
Along with that the service from AT&T is horrible. It drops about 20 times a day. Have had them out probably 15 times in the last 4 months and they could not fix the loss of signal.
Last winter Charter pulled all new cable into the neighborhood. And then we waited....and waited....and waited.
Finally just last week I was able to get hooked up. WOW!!! I am now at just under 70 megs down and 5 megs up!
Step one:
I have never owned a smart phone. Always just basic cell phones for phone calls. I do have a iPad that I use for traveling, etc.
Well as part of my whole tech update I bought a Sony Xperia XZ Premium phone.
Step two:
Get a cell phone plan with no contract but had to have international calling as my Dad lives in Europe.
So after some research I ended up with H2O Wireless prepaid plan for $27.00 a month for unlimited text, calls, international calling, and 3 gig of data.
Step 3:
Say goodbye to AT&T for all my services....cut the phone, cell phones, and DSL.
So I now have super fast internet, flagship cell phone (for a few months at least) and saving $60.00 a month over what AT&T was charging me.
Yeah...I know...cool stary bra.
