How much data does Sling TV use?

I'm thinking about ditching my cable and switching to Sling TV. I have Comcast as my Internet provider and have 200GB download with 1024GB data cap/month.

Any idea how much data Sling TV would typically use/month with moderate usage (4-6 hours/day)?

Dish Network satellite HD channels are around 1GB per hour, or just a little over 2Mbps, so I'd guess that Sling TV is around the same, assuming it's H.264 compression. Dish own Sling, not that that guarantees they use the same technology and same bitrates for their different products.

I have a USB mod on my Dish Network HD receiver that allows me to capture the bitstream sent to the MPEG decoder onto my PC, so I am getting the bits as extracted from the satellite signal. The Dish H.264 HD video is around 1/4th the data rate of OTA MPEG-2 encoded HDTV (which I can also capture).

      I use 400 - 500 GB/month, you'll be just fine.

They (sling) allow you to self throttle if so desired. So, you should be able to manage just fine.

We average about 300-350GB per month use mainly Netflix and Amazon to watch whatever, have a 250 cable connection with 500 GB allotment monthly, have never come close to the limit.

Sorry to jump in so late, but glad my fellow calgunners were on this topic. I have sling on 2 TVs and last month I used 868gb. I have my sling running a lot since I work from home a lot, but not sure how much the other tv runs. I also download quite a bit. You should be totally fine. I didn't realize we could toggle down the quality, good to know.
