When I did some POE cameras about a year ago I had a similar issue, everything worked when tested (tester, data, etc) except the cameras wouldn't power on. I tried 3 different RJ45 ends with no dice, got a 4th set from a cousin, cut and crimped them all in and they all worked.... Some RJ45s are just crap...

Ethernet cable problem

Ruh ro. Well, at least you found it. I had a cable tester I got from Fry's that would give me info on cross talk, capacitance, inductance, cable length, etc, and would also let you know you had the wrong cable and where a cable problem existed, since it only worked on copper and would fail through any repeating device. That's a handy tool when trouble shooting networks.I am an idiot. In preparing for the electrician tomorrow I figured out what the problem is. See diagram.
I thought D was the other end of B. Tester showed dim lights because it was actually going through the router. And the router does not supply power to A-B so, of course, the cam did not work
I will have the electrician run a new cable from the Den to Garage in the PVC and it will be connected to the PoE switch.

Actually had some RJ45 connectors that were non-spec the contacts when crimped ended up being a hair to low, ie wouldn't make reliable contact with the jack. Used ATT RJ45s and an AMP crimp tool and everything worked fine. Who knows , crap is probably made in China now without any quality control.Comment
