    Dell 13" 9360

    Light? Check. 2.7#
Long battery life? Check. 10+ hrs battery with FHD screen
    Not expensive? Well...

I got mine w/QHD touch screen/current Kaby Lake i7-7500U/8GB/512GB SSD as a refurb on fleabay. Looks brand new. No scuffs, scratches or issues. It was $1050, listed for $1800 on Dell site.

Best laptop I have owned. They also have a developer's edition w/Linux. Covers current and future ports with 2x USB 3.0, Thunderbolt 3/USB-C w/charging, still has an SDXC reader. Same size as my 11" Macbook Air but has a 13" screen!

Personally we've always had Apple portables. Plugged in 24/7 one for the last 8 years without any problems. Kind of like my vinyl fence that Jimmy thinks is bad, but he's a snowflake.

                  How about this?

The successor of Transformer Book T100, which I have been using for more than 3 years. It's no bull the battery life lasts more than 9 hours. The best part is it shares the same charger as any Samsung or Microsoft phone. I took it to Europe with me 3 times and I only needed to pack one single charger for this laptop and my phone.

Screen is a bit small though. But you might be able to find a larger screen that fits your needs from Asus's other offerings.

I have a Toshiba 13" Chromebook with a FHD screen...perfect for web browsing, email, and streaming video....battery lasts about 10 hours with normal use (not continuous video)...paid $150. As a Chromebook, it's plugged into the Google-verse, so my Google Drive is accessible along with Google Docs...I could probably live with just the Chromebook if I had to.

Chromebook or check out the lenovo/dell outlets for sales and refurbs.

You can install Linux on Chromebooks...a couple different ways to do it, but it requires it to be in Developer Mode which disables some of the security features on the Chrome OS side.

Transformer book is a miniature laptop. It runs on a Haswell based (Bay Trail) processor, capable of running either 32-bit or 64-bit OS. It comes with 32-bit Windows because it only has 2GB of RAM. It is not an ARM processor. Mine came with Windows 8.1. I have since upgraded it to Windows 10. Currently it runs the Anniversary Update edition.

It's a bit small for serious work, but it's great for traveling. I've taken it with me to Europe 3 times now. 10 hour battery life is pretty nice to have on the road.

Linux can be installed on many chromebooks. In fact, ChromeOS is based off of linux which means newer Chromebooks have better out-of-the-box driver support for LInux than newer Windows laptops.

I'm using Linux Mint on an Acer Chromebook 15 CB5 571 362Q that I bought refurb for $250. Everything works great, and I didn't have to finagle with installing touchpad/wifi/etc drivers or anything.

You can overwrite the BIOS firmware for a Chromebook using MrChromebox's script at https://mrchromebox.tech/#fwscript and install any OS you'd like.
