    ASUS Zenbook Opinions

I'm in the neighborhood of finding a new laptop and I came across ASUS Zenbooks and was wondering what your thoughts are on these laptops. I'm interested in the Zenbook Pro ux501vw but heard some mixed reviews.

If you have any other laptops I should look into, please let me know!

I have no experience with the Zenbooks, but after getting a MS Surface I was sold on it... if you can afford to spend a little more I would really recommending looking at some of the MS options, they really are nice.

HP also makes something like the ASUS as well.

Make sure you get a system that supports Windows Hello. It doesn't sound like much, but it really is that nice. Small luxury that make working with this modern OS really nice.

Being able to touch and pen on screen has been wonderful too.

Check out the Lenovo Yoga, and if you have a little $$$, MSI!

However, think about what you want to be doing with it. Buy accordingly.

Asus makes excellent laptops. I have had a few, and just sent a business class, Asus K53e, in mint condition, that I completely upgraded. Maxed out at 8gb/ram, 1tb, 7200rpm HDD, to my daughter stationed in Germany.

        Reliable, and tough!

I enjoy my zenbook, excellent build quality, only wish that it folded completely flat.

I have a Zenbook for work - very light weight 2.8lbs, touch screen and great display.

My Intel m3 processor only 20% slower than my co-workers Intel i5 MS Surface Pro, but still very fast and like 9+ hr battery life if not more. We use MS Surface for work, but since I'm in the IT dept I could get a Zenbook. Two other IT guys also ordered Zenbooks after seeing mine.

I also personally own a Macbook Pro 13" (2015) with the Intel i5, 8gb and 256gb ssd 3.3lbs and the Zenbook is close to it in performance but falls a little short to the Apple's quality.

Be aware the Zenbook Pro UX501VW uses a PenTile (RG/BW) not-true-4K display. The RGB in each pixel is replaced with either only RG or only BW. This means you get all the risk for content scaling issues with 4K, without the full sharpness of 4K to "make up for it". ASUS does this on just about all their current high-res offerings, and it's commonly regarded to be a deceptive marketing practice. See the sidebar on http://reddit.com/r/SuggestALaptop/ for more info.

If you're in it for the 4K resolution, I would check out the models listed in my post here instead: https://www.reddit.com/r/videography...nbook/dg86fn9/

                EDIT: fixed link

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad 13. I added 16GB RAM and dual boot Arch and Mint Linux. It's fast for my needs.

It's moderately slim. I can easily replace the battery and RAM.

If I need heavy computing or gaming I use a desktop.
