I don't pay for an Avast AV or MalwareBytes. I use the free version of both.

Then again, I don't download illegal software, movies, or music, so I have little use for the paid versions any longer.

Malware/trojans can slip through google Ad's via legit forums. No single AV is 100% or even anywhere near 100% at catching the bugs. Just use several free programs to scan weekly. I use Hitman Pro, malwarebytes, combofix, and gmer rootkit scanner.
