Can i set up my apple mac laptop without iCloud

Hi, i purchased a new apple mac laptop and don't want to use iCloud....i just want to use it to do pages, keynote, internet, photos but i don't want it to connect to the cloud etc. I bet the cloud is wonderful etc but i don't want it on my laptop.

is this possible to do and not get countless error messages?

    i'd really appreciate your help.

    thank you.

just thinking, why don't you set up the account..... it should be free. Then in the iCloud settings in System Preferences in the Apple menu, don't sync anything to the cloud.

i tried to decline the terms on my older mac...and now i constantly get error messages popping up and telling me that the icloud isn't set up etc.

perhaps the new computer will be different? just hate all those error messages all the time. maybe it is best to sign up and then not sync anything. i hope that will work.

You can sign up and turn all the syncing off...

Isn't the whole point of iCloud to sync devices and so they can parse your data?

Can you even use a fake name, w/out a CC to use iPhruity devices, or are both a requirement?

Yes the point of iCloud is to sync all your data amongst your Apple devices. Its a slick system if you are Apple centric as our family is and works very well. But you are not required to use it, and can turn off all the data syncing if you want...

OP the one feature you might want to use is the "Find my Device" feature. Turn it on now and if your laptop is ever stolen or lost you can remotely log in and track it and lock it down. You can even remotely erase the laptop if a bad guy has it...

Hey that is not a problem. Just make the account and unsync everything. Also disable the options to sync by the setting option on the icloud app.
That will work like a breeze
