    Firestick - KODI

Was reading this thread, and didn't want to muck it up.

I found the Kodi site, and well, it's confusing. I assume you load new firmware onto the Firestick. For some reason, it's not clear how this is done and what to download....

    ALSO:
I have TWO Firesticks... Amazon does not keep track of last position in a series on the Cloud. It appears to be stored on the stick. For example, say you are on season 1, episode 2 of 'Some Sitcom'. If you go to the OTHER Firestick, I don't believe it knows you were watching Some Sitcom. So I run from one TV to the other and quickly read where it was, then to the other TV and sych it...

The weird thing is that Netflix - does store your last 'viewing' in the Cloud as both Firesticks (once you get to Netflix) are synched...

EDIT: Changed title to generic questions on Kodi.
Installation was easy after I used the link from SkyHawk. And others.

I didn't need to replace firmware on my FireTV. Kodi is simply an add-on you can DL now. First you get the Filedownloader app, then you enter the link for Kodi.

I used Method 1 or 2 on this page, both supposed to work on Stick too:
The following tutorial will show you how to install Kodi on Firestick and any Fire TV device in 2026. Kodi is one of the most popular apps to install on

Okay, I have a TV and a Firestick. No PC. Is it an app that is loaded on the Firestick?

P.S. Thanks for the How To Link. Let me read that first....

No PC required either You can get the ES Explorer or file downloader directly now, straight to the Firestick. Just enable 'unknown sources' downloads in the developer menu, then get the file downloader, then get Kodi.

There are KODI installation videos on Youtube. Some seem easy to follow. Others are confusing. I bought a Firestick on Ebay with KODI already installed for about $15 over the best price of a Firestick alone and it works great. The KODI interface is less intuitive than a regular remote. One time I screwed something up ao I sent a message to the Ebay seller and they got right back to me with a fix.

This is the Ebay seller I used. Prices have gone up considerably. You may be able to find a better deal. The pictures of the interface in the Ebay ad is exactly how mine looks.

I have another Firestick I'm thinking about trying to jailbreak myself, but dread thinking about typing everything without a keyboard.

KODI works, but it is a little finicky. My wife won't use it. No patience.

You know, I design hardware and write firmware, and stuff like this drives me mad. I strive to make things as simple as possible. Basically you write the code 2 times. Get it working. Save that. Rewrite the high level stuff, since everything works, so it's easier to remember and intuitive...

            Thanks for the link.

Now that you mention it, I don't think KODI tracks you either. My Favorites on one stick are different from the other. Lately I've been watching TV shows on KODI and it doesn't automatically advance you to the next episode like Netflix or send your history to the other Firestick. Another reason why the wife doesn't like to use KODI.

This KODI thing is amazing. I loaded Exodus, Cooking Channel, MeTV.

1Channel and Castaway wouldn't load inspite of doing the updates, bailing out of KODI, ect...

                QUESTIONS:
                1. What Add-In's did you folks load?
                2. Any ideas on 1Channel ect ? Somehting about "metadata error". I posted to the guy's (Troypoint) website.
                3. Did you folks use the VPN ? I can see where that might be a good idea across the board. All the companies I have worked for have VPN's......

Kodi is great. If you use a VPN you'll more channels too.

Yeah there are a bunch of videos you can follow on youtube.

Thats how i did mine for the firestick. Once you get a bit better you can
look at websites out there like

                        or koditips.com

they have some good blog tutorials on everything and they update quite often.

Basically you want to enable unknown sources, download downloader/es explorer/filedl... one of those, download kodi onto there, install it, then install addons or builds

                        hope that helps

one thing to remember when using a vpn.......as a rule of thumb, it can cut your internet speed almost in half. yes you will get security, but you will get some buffering and freezing. for troubleshooting, if the buffering is real bad.....try it with no vpn. a good all around speed is 100 mb, that way at its worst, (50 mb), you should have zero buffering when using a vpn on a good feed.

Yes, depending on what type of VPN provider you have and the server your connected to could reduce your speed. Just make sure you have a reliable VPN service and that your connected to your a server within your state.

Don't connect to a New york server if your in California....

I would still a VPN just in case, especially if your using any add ons like popcorn time (torrent based, file sharing addons). They have copyright trackers with those files.

Your right though, don't use a VPN if you are having severe buffering issues.

Also, you ip gets logged onto those streaming sources like openload.co and vidme and all that. If crap hits the fan, they have access to people who has access those streams, not saying you will get in trouble.

Just in case kind of thing :P

My saying is... why risk it when you can easily prevent it.
