Router that will take usb hotspot plugin and give internet to lan ports (plugin)

Every once in a while I need to plug my linux laptop in to a lan port to update wifi card drivers. This has happened 3x as I move a solid state HD to a new "used" laptop usually when the old one dies or has issues. You gotta love linux's ability to adapt and run in a completely new laptop with different hardware. It only misses wifi drivers and sometimes video, but it boots just fine. Try that with winblowz.

We are off grid and I have a wifi hotspot but you cant download new drivers via wifi when there are no drivers for the wifi card.

Do any of you know of a router that will allow me to tether a usb hotspot, then plug in the laptop to the land ports of the router to update drivers via lan cable?

FYI, its very difficult to do without plugging in because of dependencies and such.

You seem to be trying to go the long way. If you really only have one device, then get another. An amazon kindle is like 30 dollars and/or any smaller tablet as a second device. And also you can use your cell phone connected to the wifi hot spot. Bottom line is that you download your drivers using the second device either to the device you are on or to a network attached storage drive, then transfer to your notebook. Even cell phones these days have apps that allow for regular file storage and local area network sharing.

    Hope this helps.

Why not just link the router to the mobile hot spot via a wireless bridge ?

      ETA

Install DDWRT on the router and bridge it to the mobile hot spot.

Most of the newer consumer routers have usb ports on them with this capability.

For all those people who find it more convenient to bother you with their question rather than to Google it for themselves.

This one has the cell antenna built in so you just pop the sim card into it and go.

but pretty much any router with usb can tether

Linux isnt like windows, its not one zipped driver file its a repository thats vetted with vetted files and dependencies that go along with that file. You might have do download 15 things from the repository and it doesnt tell you what its going to look for.

Surprised that none are compatible. You checked the ddwrt website? You can get a compatible one for the same price as that tlink one you're looking at.

But battery powered sounds like a nice perk.
