MS Surface Dock for Dual Monitors

My daughter is looking for a docking station that would allow her to use an external monitor. She has a Surface Pro 4. This is the best seller on Amazon, but the negative reviews are concerning external monitors that are not detected automatically. https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Sur...+4+docking#Ask

Any suggestions for a better docking station. Hooking up an external monitor is the main purpose. Thanks!

MS Surface Dock for Dual Monitors

You can hook up an external without the dock, using the mini display port, dual external needs the dock
To use the mini display port you just need display port to vga adapter or whichever connection type you need

Thanks. I'll let her know. She should probably spend the money on a monitor and not the dock.

I like the microsoft dock since the cable does both charging and running the dock. with other docks, you have two cables to deal with, the power cable and the USB cable.

there were isues with the surface dock not running right earlier this year, but microsoft finally figured out the firmware and the MS dock works fine for our Surface Pros and Surface Books.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

The firmware problem could be the reason for all the bad reviews on Amazon. I'll tell her to look at the dates of the reviews. Thanks.

I would say that the firmware patches that finally fixed the problem were around Springtime of this year.

to further expand on the cable deal. our users that use docks do use the computers for travel so they are undocking often. for them I had to buy a second power supply, one for their travel bag and one for their desk. the microsoft dock does built-in power so the power supply tht came with the Surface pro can be used for travel without having to remember to unplug it from your desk. I had to next-day air a couple power supplies to traveling users that forgot their power supply at their desk.

We looked at the poor reviews and they were all earlier in the year. She's decided to buy the MS dock. I told her about the power supply issue, and she'll just keep it in her backpack. She's in her first year of law school and uses the Surface Pro 4 to take notes in class. She likes the fact she can draw diagrams if she needs to.

Tripper and ke6guj, thanks for the input.

Tell her while in class to set the screen brightness down as low as she can handle, turn off wifi, only leave Bluetooth on IF she's using the pen, otherwise pretty much airplane mode, those things will get a few more minutes out of it

I have Microsoft Surface Dock, and it seem to work fine with no issues. It is able to drive 2 x 4K monitors (Dell 27inch) with no issues. It works with both Surface Pro 4 and my Surface Book.

The tray notification has "Battery Saver" button, I use it to conserve battery if needed. It works quite well with Surface Book, am able to run upto 10hrs depending on workload. It does drain faster if using VS + HyperV + Unity3D
