I am an Android guy so I am ignorant on iPhones.

Daughter is looking to get her son an unlocked iPhone for Christmas. He dove into a lake with his phone in his pocket. She says it doesn't matter which model. What should she be looking to pay to get a good deal? Do iPhones come up on Black Friday?

They do come up on Black Friday.
I usually check http://deals.ebay.com or http://www.slickdeals.com
These usually have discounted IPhone sales all the time, they are certified pre-owned most of the time or manufacturer refurbished.

If you're confident enough, might want to check your local craigslist as well, I've scored really great deals twice from my local craigslist.

Market is flooded with pretty cheap iPhone 6 / 6s right now. Good time to pick one of those up. I see some on here that have been posted for a while - probably pretty flexible on price.

The deal with unlocked phones is that you might get 2g ONLY, with YOUR provider (like a 3g AT&T phone on T-Mobile... had a friend who had an iPhone, and my son's was the same way), depending on the radio that's installed, AFAIK.

Just tell her how she could get 2 (maybe 3) Androids that perform better than an iPhone for the price of one iPhone... and they could drive 1 into a lake, and still have one left for the price of an iPhone, especially an unlocked one.

i.e.
USED T-Mobile unlocked iPhone 6 on eBay $309.99-$359 (cheapest right now, sorted by price), with good IMEI.

NIB T-Mobile LG K10 on eBay for ~$115-$150, and no expensive proprietary cables, or software, never had any moneyshots spunked on it from pr0nhub views... etc.

Woot.com has them every few weeks. I don't remember the pricing but it is higher then the comparable samsung.

My son's iPhone 4 broke, so I found him a 5s on ebay. We have Sprint, so no sim cards. It was $124 shipped. I was able to activate it on-line with Sprint via chat. Took about 15 minutes. It was Ebay, so you never know. I just look for 100% positive feedback and a good price.
