    Any Suggestions on Gaming Laptops

My four year old MSI GT60 is acting up and I'm weighing the merits of replacing it or repairing it. (power issues, shuts itself down if the power cord gets moved while charging)
Any suggestions on who's making a good machine at a reasonable price these days?

Depends on what games you're playing and how long you want to future-proof it.

    Pay to play.

Let's say five years and a 1500 to 2000$ budget. As far as gaming I mostly have been playing guild wars two and some steam games. GW2 is more CPU intensive than GPU, but I also would like it to be able handle newer games if something catches my eye, and 3D CAD modeling.
I'm eyeing one of the new MSI's again, but frankly if their build quality has not improved over the one I have now I'm not sure I'm interested.
This one meets my budget, (and could probably be found cheaper somewhere else) and is pretty well outfitted for CPU and GPU, but again, I'm concerned about their QC.

Asus ROG series with the new 1070 or 1060 GPU is the way to go.

Well, the old girl let the smoke out this evening.
Looks like I'm going to have to do this sooner rather than later.
You think the Asus build quality is noticeably higher than MSI? The options for Asus machines using the 10 series gpu's are pretty limited.

Yes, Asus's ROG series has always been great, both in terms of durability and thermal dissipation. I have had 3 of them prior to getting my current Alienware 17r2. All were sold on ebay to recoup some of the cost. The only reason I have the Alienware was because I did not want an optical drive and wanted optimus.

If you really want the optimal thermal dissipation, less fan noise, and more storage capacity, go for the bigger/fatter ROG series. That is what I did. If you want portability, go for the thinner ones.

ASUS ROG series laptops are top notch. When they first came out they were dirt cheap. Now they can get expensive but of all the gaming laptops I've owned the ROG is by far the best. I still have one I bought 7 or 8 years ago and it works fine. It's too outdated for newer games but that is how the ball bounces in the computer world.

                +2 for Asus ROG...

I bought one five years ago, G73, to use in my forensics work..maxed out the memory and stuck two SSDs in it. It still holds up well and I use it all the time.

I bought a second one, G74, for my son and he uses it everyday for gaming. Again, this one is about four years old and it still holds up well.

I just taught a computer forensics course in Germany and out of 26 students, five of them had ROGs. I'll definitely buy more in the future based on all of this.
