    Music conversion.

I am just to dang analog. Can someone explain or post a link on to how to get the music off these flat plastic discs called CD's on to my galaxy S6 so I can tune out on a flight. Running Windows 10.

An app that doses this would be cool too.

You'll need to rip the files from the CD, to your PC. Windows media player should have that feature built into it. Or, there are many freeware programs you can search for on google to download and use.

Once you have the files ripped to your computer, you will need to plug your phone into the computer and enable for data transfer (the phone will ask you if you want to do this once it is plugged in).

Once that is done, you can drag the files from the computer folder the ripped files are in, and drop them into a file of your choosing on the phone. Typically the file named "music" is best, but the S6 should be able to pull audio files regardless of where you drop them (so long as you use media player built into the phone system).

I was thinking of building a CD launcher that throws CD's just like clay's if that's any help.

No media player on your Windows 10 PC? Huh, odd. I've never used Win10, I am still on Win7. In that case, try downloading a freeware media player online that allows you to rip from CD.

As far as the file format, MP3 should be fine. Most of the files on my SD card are MP3 and have worked just fine with my Galaxy S3, S5, and now S7. Don't see why it wouldn't be the same for the S6. That said, if the freeware you choose doesn't allow you to pick the file extension to rip to, or defaults to a general media file like wav, mp4a, aaf, aac, etc, the phone should still recognize the media file as is.

Yes Windows 10 comes with something called Groove music. I cant figure out how to rip in to Groove. W10 will not play a DVD you now have to purchase the player. I think it is $10 or $14. I am resisting on principal to buy what should have been included as before.

I placed a CD in the drive. Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon. I tunes popped up and I copied it to I tunes. Playing it now over the PC.

What file format does Itunes store automatically as?

OK once it is in Itunes, Groove seems to be able o find it and play it also.

By default, iTunes stores it as AAC, using the m4a extension (mp4 container). It should play in your Galaxy S6, but test it out to make sure.

Windows Media Player should be included on most Windows 10 PCs, but you have to go to the old control panel (right click on the start menu button, then select Control Panel), goto Programs and Features, then "Turn Windows Features On or Off" and then select "Media Features," click okay, and that should bring back the proper Windows Media Player.

iTunes uses AAC format. You should be able to drag straight from iTunes onto a designated folder in your phone, and the phone should recognize and be able to play the files.

I did this with my entire iTunes library 3 year ago. Should still work, I think. LOL. Now I just get my new music through Google Play, so it's already on my phone.

Archive your CDs to FLAC: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FLAC

From there, you can convert to whatever target lossy audio file format you need for a given device.

MP3 is the most effective and takes the less amount of storage. I would use Wav format next, that's 1411 kbs sample and sounds as good as the CD. Using FLAC would also work but some devices do not play FLAC files. Do a Google search for a program called CDex, it's free and works very well for converting CD's to MP3 files. I would use no less than 192kbs. You also want to stay away from Variable Bit Rate if at all possible. You can select this in the settings of most audio converters.

This is the way people should do this. Try to keep the inherent quality level of the CD audio format for your archive, so it is more true to what you purchased, and then transcode as needed to your devices for mobile play.
