Anyone know of free CAD programs that are decent?

I need to do some pipeline layout work and was wondering if anyone knows of a free basic CAD program that is available. I would like one that has a short learning curve to become proficient in the basics, but could be also be used to do some detailed dimensional work if needed.

    TIA

SolidWorks has a free trial offer- http://www.solidworks.com/sw/purchas...FU1qfgodHt4LIg

Maybe check out their student version, you can get it for cheap and have the bare bones version of the software.

For 2D CAD, Draftsight from dassault systems is good.

Don't waste your time with solid works. That's not what you want.
Google sketchup would be an intro.
Basic CAD would be more ideal

Autodesk 360 fusion. Free for a year if you are make less than $100,000 on the product and is renewable for free each year. Made by the same company as solidworks. The only down fall is it is cloud based.

In the signup fine print it says after the 30 days you can select to continue as a hobbyist for free as long as you make less than $100,000 on the product you design with it.

Solidworks is mainly for 3D work.

ViaCad is good and doesn't cost a lot. TurboCad is another good entry level CAD program.
