    Sticker shock

Cleaning out old receipts. Found some for Toshiba portables I bought.

    04/1992 $7550.00 T6400DXC. 486DX, 200 mb HD, color screen.

    10/1993 $7075.00 T6600C. 486DX2, 510 mb HD, color screen.

    05/1996 $6100.00 T720CDT. Penguin, 1.3 gb HD, color screen.

Holy cow! Surprised I have enough money to be retired.

Those were some high end machines at the time. Hopefully they made you money.

I think I paid about ~$800 for a i486DX2-50 notebook, floor model (I worked at the shop, so I finagled a tad).

        i7 Dell, 1TB HDD (non-SSD): $749
Dell provides technology solutions, services & support. Buy Laptops, Touch Screen PCs, Desktops, Servers, Storage, Monitors, Gaming & Accessories

Most quad-core Android tablets with FREE (to $5) applications are more productive than most of the computers I used to have used prior to Win7 (dual-core AMDs), at a whopping price tag of about ~$100-$150 (NEW on eBay).

I was mainframe contracting in Italy. Not really used for work. I was part of a user group called Team Toshiba. We were support on Compuserve. For a few years they did supply a PC but never the top of the line.
