Accidentally Reformatted my External Hard Drive

Like the title says, I formatted my whole external hard drive by accident.
It's a 500gb Seagate external USB hardrive and I was trying
to just reformat a particular partition only. so much for that.

So, I need help retrieving the data on the drive, for as little as possible?
I downloaded easyus recovery and did the scan, It brought up most the the
deleted folders. But they want $70 because the free version only lets you scan.

I've tried most of the free versions with no luck. Recuva scan gives me a bunch
of file that i do not understand and have nothing to do with the deleted files.

If someone knows of a good program or can help me recover these deleted files, it would be appreciated.

Doesn't sound like your files are worth much if you're sweating a few $$'s. Good luck http://pcsupport.about.com/od/filere...y-programs.htm

Free to scan, pay up to recover.

Up to you how much it's worth to recover them. No other way around it. Unless you want to pay someone to do for a lot more.

did you use the Partition Recovery option? not the file recovery.

Photorec is gratis, and will pull anything that hasn't been overwritten, however the filenames (not the extensions) will be random, and split up (I think it is in 2gb) folders...

You can see song names via tags if they exist, so you can rename if needed, but pictures will have to be gone through manually, and so will docx, and xlsx, etc.

I have to check, but i thought I tried both ways.
The problem is the free versions pull up only files with
random names and no named folders.

I've quick formatted this HDD a few times before, so it also shows past files that I don't care about. there's was about 300gb of files on there, so its a lot to sift through.

I guess it comes down to, if I really want the files, then pay the $$$..
easyus recovery wizard was the only one that showed deleted folders
that I named, so I could easily identify them an then recover them.

You might try building a Linux recovery flash drive and using G-Parted

Hindsight is 20/20, however I paraphrase a quote all the time:
"Any data you care about need to be in 2 different places (on 2 different devices for this very reason)..."

                          Yeah, I know....

I did have about 100gb of the 300gb backed up to another drive.
                          Mostly photos from family's DSLR.

But its not really so much the fact that I can't do without it,
It the fact I lost it i cant get it back, at least without buying a program.
                          Well, It is what is.

accidently reformatted is like accidently sleep with the neighbor.

Sorry to hear about your lost data. To be honest. I dont know how to retrieve data. since cloud data is cheap you may consider drive, box, dropbox, google photos or the many others. And make sure to duplicate backups for this reason.
