I am starting to learn to use a cad program (Solid Edge 2d free) and my 22" monitor at 1680x1050 (max resolution for computer and monitor) at 150% text size is not cutting it.
I like to sit around 3 feet from the screen. My desk has a keyboard pull out tray and I like space on the desktop for documents or food (yes I like to read calguns when I eat).
My compute is a Gigabyte Brix with a basic video card. I can buy a usb 3.0 to mini display port adapter that will support 4k at 60 hz. They aren't cheap, but it beats upgrading the mini pc.
Anything smaller than 32" seems pointless. It would be nice to run two windows side by side instead of using two monitors (I use a single monitor right now). The cad icons are very small and I need more visual real estate. Full resolution at only 100% text size hasn't ever worked for me.
4k HD might not gain me a lot with the text size cranked up or resolution turned down so I can read the screen. 2k HD is $400 less expensive and may be a good combo of real estate vs. text size and quality.
Most of my use is on Fire Fox, office programs, some movies, and cad/cam software. I don't play games. Best buy didn't have any 32" screens at the store I went to, for display.
TLDR: is a 4k monitor at 32" worth the extra money when using CAD and a web browser, considering how text size is effected by high resolution?
