    Dish Network VIP222K Receiver Issues

My Dish VIP222K Receiver suddenly stopped working and is showing "Internal Communication Error 122". Have tried unplugging and a Hard Reset to no avail. Any suggestions

We quit paying for their $8/monthly Protection Plan about a year ago - if I added it again and waited a week before calling about the current issue, would they take care of it?

They are good for 3-5 years. They overheat and stop working. I have gone through a couple. Normally dish is good about replacing them. I never had to pay anything when doing so. How can you pay for a service when you aren't getting that service?

At one point I had 3 Dish boxes. 2 of which I bought on eBay. For some strange reason when one of the privately owned units died Dish replaced it with no question.

Did they replace them at no cost to you? I called them and they said they would replace it with another VIP222K for $15 for shipping the new unit and returning the old one and that the replacement unit would only carry a 60 day warranty.

No cost. You just have to negotiate.

They wont charge you for a new receiver, but w/o the service plan they will charge you for the service call.

Seems like BS to me. If the problem is their faulty equipment why should you be charged for them to come out and replace it.

But they always get yuh somehow.

We have been using Dish for over 12 years, we have one rental VIP722K receiver, and two VIP612 receivers.

The VIP722K is quirky, they constantly loose the signal, jam up and have to be rebooted, or just burn out, per the service tech. Last time the unit burned out, we called Dish and they sent a service tech out the next day. He immediately installed a refurbished receiver (there aren't any new ones available apparently), but that one was defective out of the box, so he tried the last one in his truck - that one is working now.

We also lost one VIP 612 receiver due to a hard drive failure. They shipped me one via two day and I installed it, IIRC, this was the one I owned rather than rented, but because we were long term customers they just charged shipping. The VIP612 receiver is much more reliable than the VIP722K.

That maintenance charge is money well spent, if a remote goes out, they ship one free, and if the receiver toasts they setup a service call. Maybe inconvenient, but no charge usually.

I've had receivers go out before. DISH has been good about replacing them (I did not/do not pay a maintenance charge). If they give you a problem, ask for customer retention. Let them know you're prepared to leave DISH for DirectTV.

Be prepared to switch if they call your bluff...but they won't. Too many customers are already leaving satellite & cable for streaming. Generally speaking, your value to a satellite service (or cable) is 3-5x the amount of your monthly bill (depending on your geographic location).
