op, a mbp is a very nice laptop. it is about twice the price of a comparable pc laptop though so be mindful of that and how much of a premium software is on apple products.

i buy a new mbp every other year and have been happy with the product. that being said, i just bought the surface pro and it blows my mbp out of the water on every level except for gaming. i have the radeon r9 in my mbp.

Compare/Contrast my work laptop and my home laptop, both put into service at the same time: 3 years ago

    Work:
    - HP pro grade machine w/ Win 7 Enterprise. Maintained by IT dept.
    - 8G RAM, 256G SSD, some fast Intel processor
    - Time to wake up from sleep & login, discover USB mouse, have network up: 30 seconds

    Home:
    - 15" MBP w/ Retina. No maintenance to speak of, I upgraded to latest OSX but that's it.
    - 8G RAM, 256G SSD, some fast Intel processor
    - Time to wake up from sleep, and continue running the youtube video I was watching: 1 second (0 seconds to just bring up the desktop - it's as fast as a phone)

Mac HW is great, but the software is what really makes it shine. Several years later is still works like the day I got it, whereas the Windows machine progressively gets worse and worse with every software update.

I used to think that Mac owners were just a bunch of rich fanbois, but now I see that they just wanted a reliable tool and were willing to pay for it. Worth every penny!
a mbp doesnt use a standard sata ssd, it uses onboard ssd which is connected via pcie. this allows for a much faster system, around 4x the bus speed in most instances.

that being said, your system at work has a bunch of other things going on behind the scenes that you dont know anything about. the reason it takes 30 seconds or more is because items are being loaded into memory and starting up as are network drives, etc. the reason your video isnt up is because youre more than likely required to log back into your system and its running session.

mac hardware (internals) are the same as windows machines. this is one of the reasons why virtualization software and dual booting systems are used so often with mac products.
