    Garmin GPS Map Update Question

Got a new Garmin Nuvi 55 LM on Black Friday and have a couple questions.

Have the unit hooked up to my laptop after installing Garmin Express and it says there are 2.13GB of Map Updates and 29MB of Software Updates ready to download/install. Do I need to install a MicroSD Card first or do I just go ahead and apply the updates to the unit's Internal Memory? What is the purpose of using a MicroSD Card with the unit?

Go ahead and give it a try. It will tell you if there is not enough room to install the updates. You can always install an SD card and do the update later if that is the case.

You can apply the updates directly to the internal memory. The micro sd can be used for other maps you might get off the internet, photos or to expand the main memory.

Well, it took the updates and says there's 1.31GB of available storage left.
