It's not capped. It's the modem only being able to go that fast due to the number of channels it is designed to handle. Get a better modem, get the full speed.

Time Warner vs Fios

I ended up getting my modem from TWC. I purchased a Motorola Surfboard Docsys 3 modem, but had issues provisioning it so gave that one to a friend and just did an upgrade with TWC. The Arris modem is ok, but FOR GOD'S SAKE do not use the on board router. Even the last tech that came out to do some service (squirrels like to eat cable, it seems) commented on how crappy it was as a router. Just put it in bridged mode and get your own (I have a Netgear Nighthawk X6 and am very pleased).
I pay for 200/20. This is what I just got now:

It's an older model of this one (can't find the exact model and can't physically get to the modem right now):
16x4 but no beamforming. Not that I care, I don't use the onboard WiFi.Comment

I have TW 100/10 Mbps Internet and the most basic tv package. Just ran speed test and it shows 56/11 Mbps. It's about $90 month. I don't watch TV and can't get over the air reception up here in the hills. Internet speeds are usually good and only a few outages that I can remember.sigpicComment

We had Dish and Verizon DSL and land line. We went to Time Warner cable for all three. It was a lot cheaper. Even when the 2nd year price increase sets in. Our WiFi speed is about 60/30. Maybe if I went direct it would be faster but it's OK for streaming video etc. I bought a NetGear modem rather than rent theirs.Last edited by M1NM; 01-03-2016, 12:20 PM.Comment

I just recently moved, the only internet service provider in the area is TWC. The bundle we have was priced at $150.00 at first, after a couple of months we decided we're spending too much for our monthly cable/internet/phone bill.
We ended up calling TWC to cancel our plan, the customer rep on the other line brought our bill down to $114.00 without having to remove anything from our package.
Their service doesnt suck. But every now and then it feels like their internet service slows down a little bit. When we try to connect the WiFi through our phones, it feels very sluggish. We have the 300mbps plan for the internet which is supposely their best package available. - Hope that helps.Comment

If you're using their WiFi router you'll never reach your potential over WiFi (download the Speedtest.net app and see what you are getting on your devices.
This is WiFi on my iPad. TWC Arris modem bridged to Netgear X6 router:

Hey guys I just recently moved, I'm looking to ditch traditional cable and go with Internet and Apple TV. My Internet choices are TWC and ATT but I think TWC is cheaper. So I guess I need to buy a better router and ? Because you guys say that the equipment TWC supplies sucks. Any idea what I should get?Nikita Khrushchev said"We can't expect the American People to jump from Capitalism to Communism, but we can assist their elected leaders in giving them small doses of Socialism, until they awaken one day to find that they have Communism. I pay for twc 300/20, Internet only. The fasted WiFi speed test i get is 160/20. I average 80ish on a typical prime time week night. I just use the supplied 5ghz modem supplied by twc, that way it's all on twc if I ever have a problem. Had problems in the past with cable companies blaming my own modem for connection issues.Comment

Cable modems, are pretty rock solid. I had been using my old one for almost 10 years until I finally upgraded last year. No point in giving the TWcable extra $ if you don't need to. After the first year or so, you've paid off the modem and the then it's money in your pocket after that.Comment

The Fios router they give out won't give a faster Mbps than about 56 on wifi (fastest I've seen). But with an Ethernet cable connected it gives a little better than what I pay for, 75/75.
I love the upload speed fios has. A 45 second HD video I shot on my iPhone only took about 5 seconds to upload to YouTube.Comment

W/FiOS, you can get a better deal on just Internet if you cancel service, then schedule installation the same day, at least it worked for me. I just scheduled "NEW" service, then canceled when I confirmed the install date. Retentions never gave me anywhere near the same deal if I were to drop phone and TV, unless I canceled, and started from scratch. Doing this will ding you for an initial (re-)install price of $60 to do so.
VZ FiOS hardware monthly rental was quite a bit more for HD (or even SD) per TV connection than DirecTV for non-DVR boxes (mini-genie's) last I checked, at least it was when I switched, but their quantum DVR and mini-clients (THIN? term?) might have caught-up by now.
I am still on their non-quantum Red-Trimmed 802.11N dual antenna router, supposed to be 75/75:

"Estimated Monthly Charges $64.99", and last I spoke with them, I did mention to them that their hardware rental on SD and HD boxes was too pricey for me to switch to their TV service again...
(If you use a NIM [Ethernet bridge, the initial one they dropped in Cali for the DI-604/DI-624 like ~10 years ago] the newer quantum router they are shipping isn't compatible, but they will drop a new style if you beach about it not working w/ the new quantum hardware signaling, well they did for my mother's place.)
TWC is known for having problems in the past with Internet connections just failing to stay connected, and some complained about TV service issues. FiOS routers used to have to be rebooted on occasion, but putting them on a UPS (mine is a cheaper simulated sine-wave, but no issues) seemed to alleviate that situation, so maybe it would w/ TWC.
Do TWC routers have to be power-cycled very often like they used to, or does throwing them on a UPS help?Last edited by the86d; 01-05-2016, 5:20 AM.Comment

I've been on TWC since 2006. I can honestly say that I have never had to reboot my modem. I recently was having intermittent dropouts and of course tried rebooting stuff. Finally called service and they found squirrels had eaten through the cable at the pole. Nothing to do with the hardware.Comment
