Recomend me a good security cam

Hi guys. I read through some of your other posts about security cameras. I saw that alot of you have the costco security systems. I dont think I need a whole system at this time. Im currently looking for just a camera that I can hook up directly to my computer and monitor my front porch which is directly next to my office/den. I have a window that faces my porch in my computer room. So i figure I can put a camera in the window seal on the inside of the house. or drill a whole and put a camera on the outside. any recommendations.

I have the Dropcam Pro now called the Nest cam or something. Was $199 on Amazon and is $10 a month for 10 days of cloud recording.

Kinda pricey, but completely idiot-proof and the easiest set-up ever. Picture quality is pretty good, records audio, and has a speaker so you can yell at the thieves / postman.

Get a 2 or 3 pack of those DSL-932l cameras. They work great. I put one in my cabin and a couple in back and in front before I wired in an entire system. Even put one in a couple of my closets. They are wireless and easy to setup. You can have them send you emails of the images if you setup the motion detector part of the camera and motion detection zones. Cheap and easy!

Get the best you can afford, nothing worse than catching a crook or thug on camera only to find the resolution is so grainy that it is not useful in ID'ing the crook or making out that License plate.

If you are going to go with these, you might have to update their firmware as often as you can especially if you don't use IE. I have some of these too, and they do work well, and are inexpensive.

My son is mad because as time progresses, he will not be able to have parties in this house... thanks to ssh tunnels.

For an inexpensive IP CAM, these are great. 720p, mic, speaker (two-way audio), 32 gig micro sd support for recording a lot of motion activated video, NV, phone app, remote control, remote sd card polling and video review, etc... I haven't found anything better for $50 shipped. Configure it the way you want as far as motion sensitivity, app notification, email notification, etc... Good for casual use. The power cords are a bit short for some installs. Compare features and if you find one better please post.

just use an old smartphone. they have pretty good ip cam apps for android.

I have had no issues with it. I have an app on each of our phones that we can view the cameras where ever we are as long as we have either cell signal or wifi.

I have the 720p system, but the have a 1080p system available as well.

Why don't they put wide angle lenses on those cams? The FOV is tiny.

I just got a Piper NV and I love it.

While I'm at work, I can use my smart phone to watch my dog jump on the couch and dig up the cushions

And then I can tell him off remotely and watch him react like "where did that voice come from?"

A good one would be Hikvision 3mp series (I use a bunch of them around the house). It allows you to have high resolution (better than 1080p) picture. A camera can work standalone or connect to a dedicated DVR. Requires ethernet wiring and can be powered over the same cable with PoE injector. They can be found around 100 bucks, a bit cheaper if you can wait for delivery from china, a bit more if you order from Amazon. They are coming with different lens (so different magnifications), there are also variable magnification models (although those cost significantly more)

Hikvision is one of the few brands that makes cameras; many others just put their labels
